Who can guess which book this sentence comes from?
"The sail was patched with flour sacks and, furled, it looked like the flag of permanent defeat."
Dum-di-di-dum-dum-dum.
Time's up.
It comes from the first paragraph of Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea".
One of my favourite books.
Here's Spencer Tracy wrangling with his tuna dinner. Poor bloke. If you haven't read the book. You should.
I'll see a movie, on average, once every decade, but I'm keen to see Le Weekend.
I think it may be up my proverbial alley.
And in baking news, Sunday has turned into my Day To Bake. Today I did the usual pancakes, followed by banana bread followed by corn cakes.
The Husband drew a line in the self-raising flour when I pulled out the Anzac Biscuit recipe.
Maybe next weekend. It's nice to have something to chow-down-on at work.
Here's an au pair having a birthday. She's with us for another three weeks. Thanks to her I've had my eyes opened to the Joy that is Austria.
And here are some Moomins.
Haven't seen them for a while.
Like my children, Moomins don't appear to wear shirts.
Fin.

Shirts are sooo ... yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIn our climate at least.
I pulled out an anzac biscuit recipe today too, unfortunately that's as far as that went.
Wishing you a wonderful week.
Amazing quote! I need to get around to reading that book, I love Hemingway. My husband and I went to the movies a lot pre- kids, then we saw saw a lot if kids movies post- kids, but now, alas, it doesn't happen too often.
ReplyDeleteSunday is my baking day too!! I usually make the weekly supply of bread and some Scandinavian crispy bread, full of seeds. I guess our lives aren't that different even though there's half a globe between us. Except for the temperatures:-)
I'm so impressed by your baking. When I was a newlywed, I made homemade biscuits every single day for breakfast and made either sourdough rolls or cornbread every night. Now I do well to remember when I need to pick up a loaf of bread at the store! :) I wouldn't worry about the shirts. I just walked out to find my SIL and both grandsons playing basketball in the back yard, clad only in their underpants. :)
ReplyDeleteGosh, I haven't visited here for a while. I'm impressed with the baking. I just couldn't bear to turn the oven on after all those super hot days...I always have good intentions which never eventuate when it comes to baking. Perhaps you've inspired me - I might make something today! xx
ReplyDeleteYou're amazing! 3 Baked things in one day!!! I'm quite useless in that department but Daniel loves baking so does about 90% of it in this house, my daughter does the other 10% :-) Your au pair looks lovely. Bet they all love staying with your gang. It's something we are definitely considering for down the track if things pick up work wise for me :-) Mel x
