We hauled a total of 550kg of green waste to the dump last weekend.
So satisfying.
It involved a ute, a massive chisel and a husband nagged-to-the-bone.
We dug-out small trees and shrubs and lifted carpets of fern. Found innumerable potted plants embedded in soil and old tea bags everywhere. Even swinging from trees.
Now all we have to do is get some trees cut down and we'll be able to think about planting new ones.
Ear-marked to go includes two palm trees, two umbrella trees and one unknown straggly thing. There's a heap more, but they'll have to wait.
I've gone agave and bromeliad mad. And the great thing is, they were already here, and I just had to move them about.
Lucky for us we live near horses so there's plenty of manure to be found on the weekends. Of course, horses poo on other days, but it's just not bagged until the weekends. But you knew that.
Snakes. Last weekend was warm enough for them to come out of hiding. We saw two baby green tree snakes, and our neighbour skipped over to warn me that he saw a super large green tree snake slithering along the top of the fence (fence below). The neighbour was quite beside himself with fear.
Stupidly, I've been a bit gung-ho with the water tanks. And I've managed to empty both as a result of some carefree, giddy sprinkling.
Hibiscus. Gone!
And in kitchen news ...
I painted one of the kitchen walls with blackboard paint.
Martha sits eye-level with the bin ... but it doesn't seem to faze her.
And I rolled up that hideous hall-runner. I know you all hated it, but it was nice and warm under foot.
Parquetry says 'hola'!
Now I want some outdoor furniture. Tips?

Well that sure isn't no baby tree snake!
ReplyDeleteLove your chalkboard painted wall, any aspiring artists in the mix?
I'm an agave fan myself, no broms here but Mum's big on them.
Have a great school holiday. Are you off work?
Wow, you have been busy in the garden, you made a huge difference. I have to say that I am very glad that we don't have snakes wandering around here, I don't think that I would be very relaxed about them!! xx
ReplyDeleteEek about the snake...but at least it's green and not brown!. Wow about clearing your garden. You were severe if you took out the hibiscus! Did you have to nag the SGDs to help like we did with our malingering bunch! Now you've inspired me. You're inspiring me for my garden. Did I tell you that I hate those sword ferns...good on you for ripping them out. xx
ReplyDeleteWe have a garden but not on site.
ReplyDeleteIt therefore has an aura of mystery for me as I haven't seen it for so long.
The plant there that gives me most pleasure is the waratah.
Just so Aussie.
I think outdoor furniture in our climate must be solid timber of the jarrah- type of hard wood that can be oiled leaving the natural wood finish .
You've been so busy that it made me tired just reading about it, but everything is looking so good. Well, not the snake, because it was supposed to look scary...but all the stuff that's supposed to look good. ;)
ReplyDeleteHaven't had a snake here since the dog came just giant mutant possums and turkeys. We filled our yard with agaves from one old plant down the back. At least they won't miss the tank.
