Here are some of the Apps we have on the i-phone. Thought you might be interested ...
First App off the rank is 'Happy Street'. I'm fair-dinkum obsessed with this free App. It's fairly repetitive, but you build a little town, and chop down trees, fish, and build shops and make money ...
We all play it. Even the Husband. But I don't let Martha play because she inadvertently deletes the shops I've bought and she spends my 'floofas'. Of course, it's one of those Apps where, occassionally, other 'games' will pop up requesting you 'purchase' them, but we're across that App-purchasing conspiracy, so we ignore and play on.
Next, is 'Sneaky Sam'. I bought this one. Martha loves playing it. I find the Australian narrator's intonation annoying ... but no one's perfect. The App tells a story and you can play a couple of little games ... actually, Sneaky Sam's the kind of kid I'd like to give a good shove. (He's a bit rude and precocious.)
Miffy. How can anyone not have a Miffy App? From memory, I think this one was 99c. Martha likes to play it with the Dutch language narration on. Who am I to argue?
Hmmm, I'm sensing a disturbing trend here ... the Lego App is also one that's played by Martha. It was free. It's really simple, and even though it says 4+, Martha played it at 2. Genius child. It was the first App we down-loaded and is worth the entertainment value.
Here's one for Mummy. I forget how I found the Ceramics Daily App. It won't rock your socks off. It's basically a photo of a piece of ceramic every day. Beware, they are sent out at midnight and everytime they arrive the phone makes a noise, so if you're a light sleeper and not keen on gazing at pottery in the middle of the night, you may think twice about this one.
Next is Solid Gold Dancer #3's current fave. It's the dinosaur App from the American Natural Museum. The cover shot is a T-Rex mosaic, and if you expand the mosaic, you'll see its comprised of a whole lot of photos of other dinosaurs, and if you click on an individual photo you can read all about that particular creature. Hours of pre-historic fun.
And finally, this one is for Solid Gold Dancer #1. I find it difficult to get that particular member of the troupe to do her homework, but with this App (I think we bought) she types in her spelling words, records the word, and then can be tested on them by re-hearing her recording and then re-typing the word. Get it? She does. That's the main thing.
Other suggestions for moi?
Fin.
I haven't started downloading apps on my phone for Grandsons #1 & #2 yet, since they're not quite 3 and not quite 2, and I'm not really ready for them to start effing up my iPhone. I can barely use it myself. We certainly play lots of Barney and Thomas the Tank Engine games on the computer though. I'm sure the time will come soon enough that I'll be searching the app store. You seem to have found some great ones for your kids, as well as for yourself.
ReplyDeleteWe used to play a lot of Thomas on the computer too. I've found the i-phone and its Apps very handy. Solid Gold Dancer had to get stitches in his knee the other day and without a few games of 'Angry Birds' to distract him during surgery, I think there would have been a lot of screaming.
DeleteOh, these are great suggestions! Don't know any of them but I'm sure we'll all be addicted by the end of the week. Miffy! Lego! Why have I never thought to search for these?
ReplyDeleteI did think of you when I did this post. There are bigger boy Lego games - Lego Ninjago. Not sure if there's a Star Wars one. And I downloaded one that gives you tips on Manga cartooning too. SGD #1 hasn't shown much interest in that though.
DeleteOh, it's a rabbit hole in there isn't it. Mine have figured out a few good apps on their own. I never use any but I'll be grabbing the spelling and Happy St ones ASAP!! The pod people can do it for me just with the power of their minds as they appear to have some linky app in their brain with the whole cyberlicious thing.
ReplyDeleteThis premise could be knocking on APPhouse door.
ReplyDeleteIt strikes me as a sort of contagious disease which APPears to be caught by the innocent and the pure of heart on the briefest of contacts, though distant and transient.
Thanks for some new suggestions - it's all Angry Birds, FancyPants, Jetpack and Ninja Chicken here! My phone is so full of the Kids' Apps that it is almost unrecognisable as a grown up device. Mel x
ReplyDeleteI have the Hello Kitty cafe app, it's dreadfully mind numbing but at the same time quite amusing.
ReplyDeleteouf, i do not even know how to use one, and the main reason id like to have one is instagram, since many blogfriends etc are hanging out there more than anywhere else lately :)
ReplyDeleteoh, i love your birthday list down below,

ReplyDeleteDaily Clay?! Don't pretend you're unsure how you found that App - clearly search engine and ceramic go hand in hand with you. Ha! I can't believe there is a daily ceramic fix app. Highly amusing; albeit cathartic for you I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI've read ALL your posts. I'm up to date. Shaving heads is extreme. We've not crossed the nit path... probably will this week. Number 3 lost a tooth I see - Dominic too. Any App that helps with homework is APPealing. You can enjoy a Koala. I've only crocodiles. On the front of the paper - EVERY week I tell you!!
Dipping my toe back in the water. Hello. xx
