An amalgam of photos which you may find dreary

Weekends always start with swimming lessons.

It gets hot and steaming on deck.

Blogging's taught me that food shots need to be cropped so that only part of the plate is seen.
As above.

Dolls' houses.

Martha's not particularly interested in the big dolls' house I did up. I'm seriously thinking of adding it to my 'garage sale' pile. It's quite large (the house) and takes up a lot of room, unlike these two town houses.

When the sun came out today ... the first time in what seems like months ... we frog-marched the Solid Gold Dancers to the Botanical Gardens and planetarium.

We moseyed through arid climes ...

 and scaled steamy hot-houses ...

I don't ask them to pose like this. It's the result of years of dance performances to the latest chart-topping tunes. The minute they see a camera they freeze in any one of a number of moves. Yes, some other kids do perform well at school ... but can they drop into a tableau at the click of a lense?

Ferns. They're tricky to grow.

Barely had the camera out of my pocket ...

Turtles queuing for something.

Here's a house we recently 'viewed'. It was a cracker.

We had to decline it's siren-call for us to buy.

But in more cheery news, I've found a range of military-inspired nail polishes. They're only four colours in the range (I can't recall a battle which was fought on a rainbow, so four colours is really the limit for a military range).

I chose 'taupe'. Solid Gold Dancer #3 said, "that colour really suits you". I'm attributing a comment like that from a seven-year-old boy to the result of years of 70s & 80s chart-topping dance performances.

  1. That house looks worth buying just on the virtue of its doors and gate alone! Which burn may I ask? Are you after five bedrooms? Is there such a thing. I have told my children otherwise. We love the Cootha Bot Gardens too but I am disturbed every time I drive past and see the monstrous freeway monolith on the lake now. Philistines!
The posing is, I believe, part and parcel of living in a large family. Ensemble always at the ready!

  2. Rofl - I love the solid gold dancer poses. Respect.
I couldn't stop laughing when you wrote that you barely had your camera out of the pocket.
Looked like a good weekend. Great house you looked at! Way better than anything we've managed to find down here at the moment. ps the dolls house is so great. Deserves it's own post.

  3. Ooh,ooh, I thought of a better one: Ferns flourish forever on our favourite Fundy fife.

  4. Wait, my first comment is missing. It was all about how professional the Solid Golds were, always at the ready. Or something like that.

  5. I never know how to comment on your posts, they are always a bit quirky and make me think lots of things! The botanical gardens look lovely, very different from ours which are also lovely. That gorgeous house on Fern Tree has sold, which is a pity, because I was hoping you'd buy it and we could hang out together :)

  6. Martha has become a little girl, no longer a toddler.
    Time passes.
    That house seduces the eye.
That garden a dream for all frustrated gardeners.
    Time passes slower in gardens.

  7. Love the look of that house you viewed. Great steps. The turtles are adorable. You sprung into my mind the other night, I was thinking of a book my BF in primary school had that her grandmother got her where they wrote it using her name and my name etc etc to personalise it. I was thinking of who would write a great quirky funny childrens book. And i think you would.

  12. How did I miss this post? I'll blame it on the Eames'. I fall in love with every house you post. Please buy one soon. What a lovely day in the botanical garden. I'm happy that the Solid Gold Dancers aren't camera shy. I wonder if that will change when they become teens. I hope not.
