1968 Australian home. Some Ruska. Teak furniture. Native Australian gardens. Splashes of Marimekko. Rimini blue Bitossi. 50s, 60s and 70s homes. House plants and succulents. Woody Allen. The occasional appearance by some Solid Gold Dancers. That's what you'll find here. And lashings of chutzpah thrown-in for good measure. Pull up a Suekichi Uchida and make yourself at home.
Really...stoppppppppppppppp! Pictures of all the plants and birds and beaches in Australia are already making Texas look bad. But these houses! They're amazing.
Dear Dana of wonderful taste, the houses I like generally aren't that attractive. I like to see beyond how they look and think about the potential. I love these sort of houses because they're nothing special but I can imagine what they could be like!
Truly, Kylie and Brismod find some really excellent MC houses. I like houses that can give as good as four kids can give.
That is THE skinniest kitchen I've ever seen! Which means no one can help you in there, you're on your own! And the bathtub in the separate tiled room- how very 'amenities block' of them haha. I have to laugh though- my sister and BIL have a wood panelled house. It's gross. But now I know there is grosser!
I like this. Don't be put off a galley kitchen. We have one and I really love it. BUT ours opens at each end which makes it the biggest (most annoying) thoroughfare whereas this one isn't so you wouldn't have that problem - they;ll all just perch at the end while whoever is in the kitchen is slaving away :-) Your last house I loved even more because of the sunken lounge (hello!) and the fireplace. Are you really looking to buy or just looking for fun?
I like it. Especially the dining room that opens to the patio. The living room has great potential, it's just so full of very large furniture and the fireplace is hidden. I want to rip it all out of there(furniture, not fireplace.)The pool is a big plus also. I'm actually starting to like all that wood and brown tile. I may have to rethink the whole MCM thing and go for that 70's look. What are you doing to me?
Yes, you see what I see. I see why I like you so much. The lounge is hideously furnished. It does appear a little closed in. I'd knock that right wall down (so long as the roof didn't cave in). I really prefer the 70s vibe, but I'd a die-hard MC fan, so I've got your back sister.
Pity about the kitchen. Looks like an add on or closed in verandah. I see it has a shed. That would make SOME people buy it. I don't think this house will be bought soon. Wood is not every person's kettle of fish.
I really preferred the earlier house you showed. This one is a bit closed in. I think I would feel claustrophobic inside it. And the decor is dreadful. Those armchairs and antimacassars, so antediluvian. (Had to look up the spelling of both those words, btw.)
Today we bought a Swedish car. Half tank - half Tardis. Several years old and huge mileage but we're in love. Mr EM is so fond of it he wished he could bring it into the house for the night instead of leaving it out on the street in the rain (we have no garage - not to mention no room inside!)
Dear Carmel, thank you for being such a loyal follower. I've been through some tough times lately but I think my luck is changing.
Ms E-M, the decor is dreadful. I try and look passed it.
So thrilled about your Swedish car. I hope it performs well. We had a Swedish car not so long ago, and it was the worst purchase we ever made. I'm hoping you won't suffer our fate. I loved it to bits. I don't think they suit our climate.
PS I hope your luck is changing. Being a loyal follower is not a problem. You're worth it. They're a few blogs I've followed since day-One, and you're one of them!xo
PPS The other blogs from the start are Mid-Century Madness and Loyalist Cottage. All three of you, I suspect, are of the same vintage and you're all fabulous!
As the sleet falls steadily outside my window and on top of our Swedish car, I think you may be right about it suiting our climate better than yours, especially after perusing the manual. For instance: the advice about clearing the snow away from the air vents before turning the heating on. And of course how best to carry your skis inside the vehicle.
Saw it. You know how sick I get. I almost called the ambulance when I saw the car-port set-up. I'm thinking v. sophisticated retirees live there. Anth. When does it end?!
Dear Elizabeth, thank you. I like you. My taste is definitely shaped by my childhood. I saw a lot of architecturally-designed homes while growing up, mainly family friends, and I think they made some sort of impact on me. Strange really.

ReplyDeleteDear Dana of wonderful taste,

You can buy this one....I approve... but sounds like you'll need a 'Mod Pad' for a Texan Sweetheart too!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's not bad. Imagine a pool house which house visiting bloggers!
DeleteHmmm I like it, not sure if you can actually move in that kitchen though, it looks very skinny. But with your Marimekkos in the windows who cares!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I like the kitchen. It's skinny enough to discourage numbers. I'd end-up ripping it out though and making it a bit groovier.
DeleteThat is one VERY long bathroom counter.
ReplyDeleteIt is a long counter, but those real estate photos make everything look bigger.
DeleteThat is THE skinniest kitchen I've ever seen! Which means no one can help you in there, you're on your own! And the bathtub in the separate tiled room- how very 'amenities block' of them haha. ReplyDeleteOh Bec, I love some wood panelling! It's so 70s/80s and Scandinavian! It also hides scuffs.
DeleteHmmm! This has its good points but yesterdays was the pip. In fact I dreamt about mid centaur brick houses after reading that post!
ReplyDeleteI dream about houses too.
DeleteI LOVE that house, apart from that kitchen, that shimmying up and down past my family would drive me mad.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe a 'zapper' at the kitchen entrance would keep numbers down.
DeleteWood panelled bathroom, HELLO!!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah. My point exactly.

ReplyDeleteNo sister, we're (I'm) looking to buy. I'm quietly excited. Maybe not in the next few months but by the end of the year. If I don't get sacked.
DeleteI like it. Especially the dining room that opens to the patio. The living room has great potential, it's just so full of very large furniture and the fireplace is hidden. DeleteI like this one better, it seems much brighter although that is some skinny kitchen! Will it hold all the SGDs?
ReplyDeleteShould hold them all a bit than the first one. Kids. Why can't they sleep outside?
DeletePity about the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an add on or closed in verandah.
I see it has a shed.

Wood is not every person's kettle of fish.
Wood is not everyone's kettle of fish. That's a relief for me.
