This post is dedicated to Tove of the blog stuff that makes my heart beat faster. And to my mother because without her, I wouldn't be showing you my Digsmed Lazy Susan.
Here she is.
Mum bought her sometime during the 60s on a trip to Denmark. The Lazy Susan is dated 1964 and is in perfect condition. Mum gave her to me for Mothers' Day a
few years ago.
I don't use the Lazy Susan too often, but did recently for an afternoon tea with some Doyennes of Instagram. The condition being that everyone had to bring a vintage plate and explain its provenance. (I like a purposeful and educative get-together, don't you?)
The Lazy Susan only deserves the best of retro cuisine.
So, I whipped up some devilled eggs, devils on horseback and some good ol' cheddar and Jatz crackers. The only thing missing was some stuffed green olives and bite-sized kabana.
We all gathered to admire one of the Doyenne's latest Hornsea aquisitions.
Ogle and admire.

Wow, I'm so honored to be a dedicatee ( is that a word?) in the company of your mom! Thank you! Your Digsmed looks fantastic, I'm really looking forward to using mine now that I've seen how amazing it looks with food on it:-) It looks great with that handled bowl on top too! I'm searching for a bowl in the right size for that "upper floor" too. My thrift store liaison told me a smoke colored Hadeland Multe (Cloudberry) would be nice, so I guess I'm looking for one of those. But a patterned one like yours looks equally dashing!
ReplyDeleteWow, afternoon tea on thrifted beauties looks really yummy:-)
Thanks again!!!
Tove, you're two things I admire. Norwegian and an architect! The Digsmed is very special. I'm so glad it's in such good condition. The bowl is a vintage Villeroy and Boch that I picked up a few years ago. Coincidentally, it fits. Good luck with finding a smokey dish. Somehow, I know you will ...
DeleteIf L.Susan could talk, she would regale you with all the past fun fondue parties she served .
ReplyDeleteI'm sure she would. Thanks for giving her to me.
DeleteI remember the venerable lazy susan. You have a double decker! That I've never seen.
ReplyDeletexo
p.s. You hang out with the best peeps.
They are funny ladies, Debbish. All that was missing was a Canadian accent.xo
DeleteYou forgot the coloured cocktail onions!
ReplyDeleteI love the lazy Susan scene in Yours, Mine, and Ours (the Lucille Ball version)
Cocktail onions! Of course.
DeleteHaven't seen Yours, Mine and Ours. Should I?
Only the original, when you've got nothing better to do...
DeleteTWO Digsmed Lazy Susans in one day? I'm absolutely green with envy. I tried to be gracious when Tove posted hers, but another one? I can't contain my jealousy for another instant. :)
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hard to be gracious, isn't it? So many beautiful things people find. Makes things though easy when the owners of such items are so lovely. Makes me sigh. I'm so glad I 'know' so many lovely ladies with similar tastes. There are so many people who just don't get it!
DeleteOh it's two tier with serving dishes too! I'd be using that all the time - love it!
DeleteBut where are the prawn cocktails?!
ReplyDeleteThat's one impressive lazy Susan you have there.
ReplyDeleteBring a vintage plate is a wonderful idea for a get-together.
x
Still bummed I missed the afternoon tea with you doyennes! Next time, I will be there and until then, I'll brush up on my knowledge of dinner ware. I have just the perfect plate too!
ReplyDeleteI need to join this bandwagon! x
ReplyDeleteMmmmm that is one mighty fine lazy susan, probably the nicest I've ever seen. I'd definitely make some room in my overcrowded cupboards for that.
ReplyDeleteFrist time visit. Big fan of Digsmed and now I'm on a mission to find one of these! It's even more awesome all dolled up with delish bits and bobs.
