I've just subscribed to Anorak magazine.
A couple of years ago 'Santa' gave the boys some Anorak mags, and they're still reading them. They read them over-and-over. So I threw caution to the wind and subscribed for two years. The English magazine describes itself as being for boys and girls aged between 6 -12. And I love the whole ol' school concept of having a magazine delivered to the door once every few months.
And if I get really brave, my next subscription will be this.
i am totally impressed by your hexagon project, i think it will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteabout the au pair thing and it being confusing for children...
i think that it is great that they get to meet different (more or less) grown up people and to form relationships to them. even if it contains aswell the sadness of farewells and the uncertain period of getting to know a stranger. it is just like in life. it is a big part of life. and a wonderful experience.
Sara, the hexagon project will take a long time. I really don't like wasting fabric and this is a good way to use scraps. I know I'll hate it before it's finished. We haven't had a Swedish au pair yet! Maybe next time.
DeleteLive "in the moment" MMMC. Subscribe NOW!!! Atomic Ranch looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Atomic Ranch look the goods?!
DeleteI'm a big magazine subscriber. I guess I'm just old school enough (and a former literature teacher and librarian) to love the feel of a book or a magazine in my hand, rather than reading online, even though my age makes it easier for me to read books on my Kindle now.
ReplyDeleteI subscribe to Atomic Ranch, and I think you'd love it. I also subscribe to Dwell, Interior Design, D Magazine (about living in Dallas, TX), Vanity Fair and Food & Wine. My daughter subscribes to Highlights for the boys, which is a magazine I grew up with and might be similar to Anorak.
I say jump in with both feet!
You are a subscriber! And across a range of mags. What do you do with them when you're done? My mother subscribed me to the London Review of Books which is always good to read on the bus. There's a tri-monthly British MC magazine the name of which escapes me. That looks good too.
DeleteWe keep Atomic Ranch and Interior Design for reference for the store. The rest we put at the curb in our normal recycling bin.
DeleteIf all else fails, I found this link to a site that gives you 100 ways to reuse old magazines.

I like the idea of subscribing to a good quality magazine for the kids. Shall investigate Anorak. My oldest loves his Dad's Mad comics (I am not convinced that they are appropriate) and my middle is fully entrenched in Made By Joel's craft book. The little one keeps bringing home those jolly book club newsletters which is like the Crazy Clark of book stores. Maybe an Anorak would cover all bases.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think the husband would like that Atomic Ranch.
I did think of yours when I hit the 'subscribe' button. I think the middle one will like them. We get the book club newsletters too. I always promise they can get something and then I forget, and it's all too late. Though I'm bracing myself for the fights as to who's reading first! when each issue arrives.
DeleteMmmm, Atomic Ranch.
Oh, I love those covers, great graphics! Atomic Ranch is a good one, I make my husband buy it for me from time to time, he flies to the US a lot. And I subscribe to Dwell:-) It's a great mix of mid century and cutting edge modern!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!!
Aren't those covers gorgeous? I will have to look into this for my eldest especially, he's a big reader and will read to his little brother too. Mind you one person with a chronic magazine habit in the house is probably enough, and I've cut down a lot since discovering blogs.
