My son wears my shoes

Good tidings. Finnish K leaves us in a few weeks. So that means, her au pair work with us is finnished.

I'll miss her ability to mind children as and when required ...

and her Moomin band-aids.

Changes are afoot in the MMMC household.

There's a lot going on behind the scenes which leaves little room for a blog.

I'm not sure if any of you have been to Cotton On Kids lately, but I sauntered in there today and left with a lot more than I anticipated.

Their colours and styles are absolute winners, in my books.

Then I decided to throw down the plastic-plant gauntlet and came home with some fish-tank plants which will make great indoor arrangements for the Dolls' House (as we speak, the Husband is at the video store borrowing, what I like to call '70s Woody Allen Gold' for interior decorating inspiration).

I also invested in some beads. From the top we have a vintage Italian bead, a spong-coral bead, a resin-ring bead, another resin bead, a lava stone, an oval-resin bead, three blue beads which fall in the category of miscellaneous beads, and two rainbow-resin beads.

I purchased them from the above shop. The couple there were so lovely and friendly. If you're after beads I wouldn't head anywhere else. And the husband expressed some interest in seeing the Dolls' House, now if that doesn't pique your interest, I don't know what else will.

Here's a handful of beads posing as a vignette of vases ...

And some more beads trying to fool us all that they're straight from the Dinosaur Designs Flagship store! Hoop-la.

  1. I sure would like to spend a weekend in your home. It sounds like one cool project after another. Just wanted to pop by & say hi! Hope you're having a good weekend. :)

  2. Hello KLT. A lot of the dolls' house is decked out in your fabric.

Kylie, it does look like a wreath, but it's not a wreath. It's actually the work of Child 3 who was left at home on his own with his father because he was throwing a tantrum. It may have been a behaviour therapy activity they did together.

  3. You must have a special eye that views things in miniature... that bead vase vignette is a masterpiece of interior dollhouse design!

  4. I love your tiny bead/vase vignettes..very cute and clever!

  5. Does this mean you have undergone cot transition with Marvelous Mmmmartha!? Perhaps Fin K. can give us a farewell guest post since she has inadvertently become a legend in your own blog time. It could be an insiders view of an authentic Australian hacienda.

  6. I can't believe Finnish K is finnished already! I love your bead vases, how smart are you? I do not believe my Child Three had a TANTRUM! You must be confused.

  7. Wait, what did the title of your post mean? Maybe I'm confused.

  8. Deb I'm with you re the post title. But then I'm easily confused these days...

I also can't believe that Finnish K is finnished (oh how we all love that wordplay). Was she just a winter wonder? Or has she been with you for a whole year? How times flies.

Brilliant idea about fish tank plants for the Superior doll's house. Are the beads also destined for the doll's house, to become Scandinavian cool/mid-century modern vases? Or are you creating a necklace?

  9. I think Child 3 is destined for greatness in the wreath world. Give him a bottle of glue and a bucket of clothes pins and turn him loose! Bravo to Child 3! So long Finnish K! Are you looking to find a replacement now? I love the vase vignette. I think I might need to go in search of a doll house. You're having too much fun with that.

  10. CurlyPops, maybe I do have The Eye for miniature! I'm always looking for points of difference on my CV. Thank you.

Thank you Naturally Carol, don't get sucked into the Dolls' House Vortex.

    Annie,
we're about to put-up the big bed. I know I'll regret it. I know it. Not a bad idea about getting Finnish K to do a post. She won't want to though.

    Deb,
I couldn't think of a post title, and while I was wracking my brain, Child 3 came into the room wearing a pair of my high heels.

Ms E-M, Finnish K was with us while I did the tertiary equivalent of an Articled Clerkship. Now that's finnished, she's going travelling. If I get a job, we'll get someone else. (And the beads are going to be mini-vases).

Ms MCM, that's a good idea about a clothes peg wreath ... it sort of sums up suburban Christmas doesn't it? Well, it does here.

  11. The beads make a perfect vignette (I only learned that word since blogging, sadly I haven't learned how to keep surfaces clear of random crap so I can make any)

  12. I'm very sad to be faced with the "fin" of Finnish K. I know she will leave a large hole in the family dynamic.
But, it does seem that the Husband is keen for a hands on involvement. Let him practice on the DH and then apply his honed skills to the hacienda.
I'm confused about the fish tank plants.
Has the humidity pushed the weather inside said hacienda to a fluid state? I worry about their survival, particularly now that our poodle has consumed my coriander and chives in indoor/outdoor pots.
    Fragility is rampant plantwise.

  13. Can't wait to see the beads and plants in the doll's house. Good luck and love to finnish K. Sad that she is moomin on, there is sure to be tears and more tantrums on the cards when she is gone, xx KAtherine

  14. It's a time of mixed feelings when Baby #4 leaves the cot. Does one pass the cot along, or set about re-filling it! In our case hubby's nip & tuck answered that question!
I'm pleased to read I'm not the only one relatively new to the vignette concept. How does a pile of loose change, a collection of screwdrivers, some scalpel blades and a shifter placed on my dresser rate?

  15. Those beads are ultra fabulous MMMC!! Love the vignettes too, they could be of dinosaur designs vases...

  16. Um yeah, it's apparent I didn't read the last few lines of your post... Too excited by the pics is my excuse. Still great minds...

  17. Tell her it's a local tradition to always finish with a Finnish post or you won't let her go and she will be forced to stay for Christmas and the first half of 2012 in lieu. Your post title is tres Dada.

  18. So much to say, where to start? Firstly the bead vases are superb, is that room by room walk through coming soon? Secondly Cotton on is one of my faves too, unfortunately Liongirl is currently wanting constant hot pink stretch cotton with maximal bling so Cotton on is not the top of her list. Thirdly, if there was less obsessive compulsive arranging of pegs there would be a lot more blog time- get thee a peg basket. melx

  23. I'm very sad today. I thought to check your blog to have a laugh and...finnish K. is leaving. Finnish K. is leaving. That's all I can think about. I'm going over to Deb's blog now. I hope to see some baby's pictures to cheer me up. Finnish K. is leaving...

    p.s.
how do you know those beads are Italian? I'm Italian and I don't see why they should be too.
