3 cushion nightmare

I'm living a three-cushion nightmare.

These are the culprits.

At one point I was going to sew covers for them, but I don't have the time to do that.

So I've started to look for covers for them.

Dilemma - what pattern to choose? And are cushion covers all so ridiculously expensive?

Or is it just me?

I love these covers ...

But they're 55 (English poundesses) each! Here.

This one, with insert (who needs an insert?), is 85 (English poundets)! Here.

Is that expensive or am I just tight? And are cushion covers on their own, without the bladder, thin-on-the-ground? See the nightmare I'm grappling with!?

Tomorrow's a FLEX-DAY! I know!

I'm going to clean the bathroom and I can't wait!!

  1. Lovely choices, they will make you happy and provide designy goodness in your home or it's off to Ikea you go! ;)

  2. They are expensive. Check out Etsy. There's marvelous cushion covers there! Dare I ask what flex day is?

  3. I am getting to the point with "things", that I'd rather save up and get what I really want than make do (although, God knows, there is still alot of making do in this house!)
Even interesting Australian made cushions are just as expensive as those nice English ones.
I don't know, at least cleaning the bathroom is (relatively) easy.

  4. I think it's expensive or Ikea. And that's more fun than cleaning the bathroom (which would be totally obvious if you could see my bathroom at the moment - Lordy!). Happy flex day to you though. I had a day off yesterday but had a Paint Along. I'm a leetle bit tired... but not too tired to visit here obviously!

  5. I balk at exorbitant pillow prices. Almost every pillow in my house is from Crate and Barrel, and I usually pay $20-40 US dollars for them. If I luck out and find them at the C&B Outlet, they're sometimes $10-15. I actually like them as well as any expensive pillows my friends have bought.

  6. I'm looking for cushion covers in mad (aka adorable) mid-century designs for you. If only you could sew because I could send you the fabric. Well if only I still had a sewing machine then I could send you some covers!

  7. Expensive is relative.
I see it as saying to myself - is that price ok when one compares it to my time, fabric, expertise , and personal fulfilment, doing it myself?
I also see cushion covers as an item you don't want to change very often.
But Deb's suggestion of checking Etsy is a good one.
    Happy bathroom!

  8. Eeeek I agree that they're rather pricey! Jump online and check out Etsy or Made It instead, or you could even buy fabric and have someone whip up some covers for you.

  9. I have an elderly gentleman over the hill who makes cushion covers out of any fabric you might have for $15. YES! $15! Or at least that was the price last time I had a baby and was nesting up with cushions. (3 years ago) He is at Everton Hills and he and his goodly wife whip them up in their upholstery business. You just supply some fabric. They also cover couches etc when they are not Grey Nomading. If you are interested I'll e mail you his phone number.

  10. PS Must be the weather but I too cleaned the bathroom today. It was beginning to smell like those cubicles next to Paris churches known as 'pissoirs'. My boys had better straighten up and aim straight or they can start revisiting the citrus tree formally known as the wee wee tree.

  11. They seem expensive but my how lovely. Especially the third. DMC sounds just like my mother. Mothers are smart and savvy. It is very hard to find covers without cushions. I have some stella tea towels that would look lovely as cushions but then there is that time/effort/satisfaction conundrum and they have been sitting there for 6 months now ... waiting. Come to think of it they would look just as lovely as tea towels! Brilliant. I have just saved myself some precious time. Talking of precious time, I cleaned the toilet today too. Then got a call to pick up the 5yo from school who promptly threw up in, and near by, the sparkly toilet. I think I am going to be busy this weekend - but, like Anna, not too busy to visit here.

  12. I'd run with either Annie's or Deb's suggestion. I got some knit cushions from Spotlight and you'd be surprised what you can pick up on eBay too. xx

  13. LOVE the second and third. That is a bit 'dear' though. You sure you don't have time to sew some? Cushion covers are about the only thing I CAN sew. It takes me hours but I'm sure with your prowess you'd whip some up in a jiffy?! And I know for a fact you piles of gorgeous fabric.

I saw you had a great flexiday. (I've been watching you. Through the instagram window.)
