It's always dark when I leave work for home. I can't wait for summer.
My i-phone is very handy for taking quick snaps. And my latest distraction - Instagram - makes blogging seem like such hard work.
I don't wear much make-up to work, as I think it ages One. Thoughts?
For me, it's better just to wear a light layer of foundation and some lipstick. I rarely wear mascara now, as one day I left work to see my reflection in some shop mirror and I realised I'd smudged my mascara all under my eyes. Like some drunk, under-paid panda.
But I have found what will be my signature lipstick. You only need one. I've sworn by matte lipsticks every since Poppy King burst onto the 90s David Jones makeup floor and shook-it-up in the lipstick department.
"Oh, there's a girl with a Barbie! Oh No! She's walking away!"
"I can't see Barbie any more. She's gone."
"Oh Barbie, breaker of hearts. I'll drown my pink sorrows in this pink milkshake."
Danish arm chair for anyone who's interested.
I'm thinking of immersing myself in the Art Scene.
And for those of you who love compost, ours is happily chockers with worms. We spent the weekend pottering about the garden.
Above are the tips of some carrots. We planted some tomatoes.
And generally shovelled three bags of mulch about. There's nothing more satisfying. Who's on Instagram that I need to be aware of?

I spent the weekend in the garden too, mainly getting rid of a huge amount of greenwaste and pruning/cutting out my raspberries. Your carrots are looking fab! The trickiest bit is getting them through the soil.
ReplyDeleteRe makeup, I don't wear much either. Light foundation, eyeliner, mostly grey and mascara. I do the accidental smudge thing too, but as someone in the arts industry that doesn't seem to matter :)
Oh those Poppy King lipsticks. I walked around looking like I had dried blood on my lips for years. So cutting edge. They did dry out ones lips though. I wonder what happened to Poppy King? Poppy - are you out there??
ReplyDeleteDon't do much make-up for work. Have started to use highlighting concealer though to banish the ubiquitous under eye bags that seem to be the lot of a working Mum. (Or any Mum for that matter.)
Take care.
SarahB,
ReplyDeleteraspberries sound exciting. I may look at having a stab at growing some of them. People should really point-out smudged make-up, a bit like discreetly pointing out an open zipper.
Farmer's Wife,
you're spot-on about matte lipstick looking like dried blood! Ha. Highlighting concealer sounds helpful.
I use tinted moisturiser mostly and just some lippie or lip gloss and blush if it's a work-type situation. If I'm going out at night I do the full face and eyes but that is a rarity. I don't know whether make-up ages...maybe...I think hair styles age people more...look at Princess Anne. Your girls are gorgeous btw. xx
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the hair I think. Such a hassle going to a hairdresser all the time.
DeleteThank you about the girls. I think they're pretty. Martha has a quirk which I'm not sure anyone had every noticed, but to me it stands out everytime I look at her.
Watched "Silk" the other night, and thought of you. Obviously you are channelling Martha with your makeup regime.
ReplyDeleteI am overwhelmed with the grooming required by this full time job of mine. Or maybe that's a reflection on the lack of grooming prior to it. Probably. Hairy fairy arty farty type that I used to be (now THAT's my part time job!).
I love Martha's (Silk) makeup application. I did even think of writing to the makeup person to ask what they apply. I know. Sad.
DeleteMartha must visit the Barbie doll compound that we live in here one day.
ReplyDeleteShe wouldn't leave ... so I'll drop her and a suitcase over next weekend!
DeleteOh that Martha's looking too grown up! I used to wear foundation and blush once upon a time. You could try waterproof mascara maybe. Makeup is supposed to look like you're not wearing any. Ask Laura. She's on instagram too.
ReplyDeleteI think I do have waterproof mascara ... I must rub my eyes a lot.
DeleteAt my age, I really do think artfully applied makeup can help, but too much (or the wrong color...I've found I have to go a tiny bit rosier now than when I was young) can make you look older...and God knows that when you're 64, you don't need to look older! :) (I swear by Bare Escentuals makeup and Lancome Definicils mascara!)
ReplyDeleteOh, how I wish I could garden...or do anything in my yard right now. I'm suffering from a horrible flea infestation. The houses on three sides of me have big dogs that stay in the yard, and now my yard is teeming with fleas...and my tiny shih tzu, who has never had a flea in his life, is covered. What's worse, they're in my house, and I'm going crazy. Any tips on how to get rid of them that is kid-safe?
I like your tips!
DeleteAnd fleas! I think there's no option for you but to get fumigators (sp?) in. We had a flea infestation once, and it wasn't Noodle, they were under the house and there was an flea epidemic. I got the spray man in and it was the best thing I did. I took the kids away from the house for the day.
I think that's just what you'll have to do Mrs.
most of the time it's just mascara and lipgloss. Sometimes I wear also a black pencil around my eyes and foundation, but NEVER in summer. It feels like going around with a coat wrapped around your face.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only human left that doesn't have an iPhone?
There's nothing worse than having a cat wrapped around your face. Nothing worse. Maybe fleas.
DeleteYou don't need an i-phone, and the cats would never get off it.
Would you believe Poppy is still around and still has a lipstick range? Peta Pledger met her last week and instagrammed a photo. I'll find it and tag you so can check it out!
ReplyDeleteI saw that cheeky!
DeleteA brush on bronzer, cures all! Love the Danish chair pic, spoke to me!
ReplyDeleteDanish furniture speaks to me too. It often says, "Take me home. To Hell with the expense!"
DeleteI'm wearing mascara for the first time in ears. Celebrating the last hair frontier! Panda eyes are so de rigeur anyhow if you are late night Friday shopping in the mall. How do I visit your Instagram?
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you're whacking on some mascara. I may go paint my nails. Instagram ... using the MMMC nom de plume.
DeleteMakeup ages....especially in the harsh light of day. I dont wear any Im kind if glad because it is one less "supply" that I have to buy.
ReplyDeleteOn saying that a bit of lippy and foundation makes a difference is you are fairer Im quite dark so if I wear makeup during the day I can look like Im wearing stage makeup hence why I dont wear it.
I remember poppy king matt lippies they were good werent they? I think I still have an old one somewhere....hmmm
Have a good week :)
I haven't been here to visit because instagramming has taken over my LIFE as you well know!! It seems such an effort to blog...aargh. But I know this will pass. A signature lipstick is a real goer until they change the freakin colours !!! Mine used to be Ginger Jam ELizabeth Arden. Mum's was Peach Promises...no longer available. Now I where Reds. I'm told women my age shouldn't were red lipstick but I don't care, I'm a firm believer in distracting from my chins whenever possible. I am thinking of getting one of those long lasting lipsticks because lets face it I'm not the kind of girl that's good at reapplying. Let me just say Martha's piggy tails are the bomb!! I can imagine how fluffy their tufty little ends feel. I spy some bananas in that compost....remember when Bananas were expensive...they wouldn't have made it to that compost.!
ReplyDeleteI have completely stuffed up all my wheres, wears etc...spelling???
