I went to Sportsgirl (shop) today to find something groovy for Korean H, and I came out with this book for Solid Gold Dancer #1. I'm hoping she'll dig it.

I find some blogs circles quite clique-y so never thought I'd buy the above book, but was surprised at how good it is for creative minds.
And then I went to David Jones and stumbled across some hidden Hello Kitty in the stationery section. If only I had more time to trawl the City ... I think I'd unsurface all sorts of goodness and then I'd marvel in my ingenuity.
See how my friends have sorted their teatowels? Clever, because you can't see said teatowels if you're standing inconspicuously in the kitchen, but they're secretly drying all.the.time.
Think about it.

Hmm. The city. It's been a while but if there is treasure to be had you may have tempted me to a trawl!
ReplyDeleteI'm only in the City because of work. I'd never venture in there otherwise. You need to travel solo.
DeleteI'd be trawling that city in a heartbeat.

It's hot Deb, and not a patch on Paris.
DeleteSince when has Sportsgirl sold books? I love your city, just don't get to visit often enough. Sounds like your prepping well for Chrissie.
ReplyDeleteA lot of shops seem to have a 'gift' table which is obviously a marketing ploy because it's all eye-catching and relatively cheap. So you go in with plans to purchase something and then walk out with that and something else. I'm over Christmas already.
DeleteWhat a cooll mum! Buying uber books! Start them young I say! I hope santa brings me that book too. A discreet tea towel, I have never heard of the notion! Your super lovely BTW xx
ReplyDeletePippa, I hope she likes the book too. It's perfect for crafty tweeny/teenagers. My tea towels are all old baby burp cloths I made from terry-towelling nappies (new ones). They're tatty and worn. Shameful.
DeleteSportsgirl huh? That's surprising, though I do remember running past it the other day and seeing a whole lots of cute gifty stuff in there. I just don't want to be tempted!
ReplyDeleteYuh. Cute girly stuff. You'd go a bit giddy I expect.
DeleteLiberty does Hello Kitty? I'm flabbergasted. Next time I'm in London I'll visit and search for that stuff. In the meantime I'm pleased to see that you're keeping your darlings occupied until my over hyped and much delayed parcel arrives. Will let you know when I have entrusted it to the Royal Mail. I could just send Lidl choc santas...
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for your parcel. No pressure though. I'm guilty of promising to send things to people and letting time get away with me.
DeleteThere was quite a lot of Hello Kitty Liberty stuff produced at one point. A bit like Stella MacCartney (sp?) and Target. I liked some and disliked others. I felt it was a bit of a sell-out, not sure by whom, but SGD#1 will like it.
Did Korean H miss out
ReplyDeleteI bought Korean H and old style Sportsgirl t-shirt and a sticker book.
DeleteYour friends have got such nice houses. I really like the tiles in this one's kitchen. And the t.t. idea is good one. You should see the t.ts. I use to dry the dishes! Hideous, manky old things that a sneaky little rail like this would be perfect for. Pity we don't have a nice, discreet little spot like your friend does in our kitchen. I can't stand t.ts. hanging from the oven door etc. Yuk! See ya x
ReplyDeleteMy pals will love the fact you noticed the tiles! They are pretty groovy ... they are tile suns. I've never seen anything like them. Was a real talking point. I can't believe you'd have manky tts. Do you go through a lot per day? I use about 10 it seems.
DeleteI agree with you about the cliquey (spelling?!) circles jazz - bleh, certainly not for me.
ReplyDeleteGreat gifts. Nifty tt idea! Mine hang out bam smack in the middle of the kitchen in all their dirty glory. Might need to recitfy that. Hope you have a good week.x
Hello, yes the tt hanging idea is spot on. I think the rest of us have to accept tts are on display. It's a shame when a nice tt goes bad.
DeleteMy daughter was a huge Hello Kitty fan. It makes me smile every time I see it.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting Hello Kitty for the first time from Hawaii when I was young. My mother brought some home. You couldn't get it in Australia for a while (I'm talking late 70s). All the cool kids would have it because their parents would go to Hong Kong and Singapore etc where San Rio was everywhere. When it did become available in Australia, that was all I'd spend my pocket money on. And smokes.
DeleteI feel quite with it as I have even noticed that Sportsgirl is now called 'Sg'. Who woulda thunk it?
ReplyDeleteI do like Beci Orpin. I like it when people work at what they do and then go places. She's a bit talented. I'm sure Sg Dancer will love it.
My Chrissie planning has well and truly begun. I thought I was finished until I remembered it was The Husband's birthday next week!
Keep it up.
I like how someone like Beci Orpin has found something she loves to do and makes a living from it. A bit like you really. It's a relief to have Christmas sorted early. Good going, sister!
DeleteTea Towel Cred. The Red Baron is chuffed. I do like that Hello Kitty but must say the marriage with Liberty did make me feel like someone had been spying on me circa 88. It is like when you introduce two of your friends to each other and then they become besties and start going to the Ship Inn with out you. Am I over thinking it?
ReplyDeleteJust spotted your instagram in the corner - did you get a bit of water?
Reader 3, water came rushing in! It stopped just millimetres from Phoof's pine bedside table! I was worried we'd lose it.
DeleteHa! About Hello Kitty/Liberty. Imagine if that combo was released in 1988! Your mind would've blown. Hello Kitty went off the rails for a bit with the hot pink/black combo it seemed to be trapped in. Hello Kitty should only be red or navy in my eyes.
As for tt cred. Such a great idea in so many ways.
Louvre window love, tea towel drying love...You know we have no where other than the oven handle to dry our tea towels? That is poor design. Your friends have good design. xx
ReplyDeleteGood design. There should be laws against bad design. Everyone would be happier, I just know it.
