Hosanna!
Because we're coming up to Easter, Child 3 has taken it upon himself to yell, "Hosanna!" at every opportunity.
There's only so many times I can hear "Hosanna!" before I yell, "Blessed are the sons who go and visit their grandparents for a few days to give their mother peace!" So they've gone. And all is quiet.
Though I've discovered the 'jet' spray on our hosanna, and it's good at scaring away the bush turkeys.
We visited Grandma in The Land of Grandma the other day. So I'll show you some of the spoils that Grandma found in a chest. Fabric mostly.
Here is some Batik fabric from Bali that she picked up in the early 80s. The above is a bright yellow with navy butterflies. My camera is very close to being replaced.
I think I may make a long wrap skirt out of the butterflies.Very 70s.
This Batik features some sort of creature. I'm not sure what I'll use it for. I'm going to make a brave fashion prediction and declare that Batik is BACK IN!
The best piece of Batik is, unfortunately, stuck in the front loader which is refusing to open.
The front loader, like the camera, is very close to being replaced.
Below is some fabric Grandma bought in Hawaii in the 70s.
It's about three yards of Tahitian screen-printed cotton.
And the below is a vibrant blue and white cotton called, 'Polynesian ladies' which also came from Hawaii. Grandma said she was going to make a muumuu from it.
Child One says it is 'horribly rude' as there is a lot of big bosomed Polynesian women all over it. A strange choice of material for Grandma to purchase ... but it would lend itself to a wonderful kaftan.
Finally, here is the piece de resistance.
This is old Marimekko. The selvedge says its 1972 Maija Isola 'Ibir'.
When I was little I used to sleep in a four-poster bed, and this was its canopy. It is in beautiful condition and its frills are quilted and piped. I just have to wait for Martha to graduate from her cot and she can have the bed and the canopy.
The below is the bedspread on Child One's bed. It's a bit faded in parts but my heart leapt when I saw it buried in Grandma's chest of goodies.
Most of the fabric came out of this bag. Remember plastic bags with these handles?
You don't see them any more.
It's the holidays, and I think I'll encourage Child One to read this, rather than watch television.
She normally reads these ... over-and-over.
Finally, Grandma gave us these mini Arne Jacobsen chairs. They are very cute. A little too small for the dolls' house.
But they fit Playmobil people perfectly.
Groovy.
Fin.
Those fabrics are seriously gorgeous! I would love to have them in my collection. How cute are those little mini me chairs? :D x
ReplyDeleteWow Grandmas got lots of goodies ferreted away! That canopy and bedspread is absolutely stunning, hurry up and kick Martha out of her cot so we can see her bed!
ReplyDeleteWhat seriously cute chairs! And fabric motherlode! That duvet cover is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteGrandma has a cool stash! The Merimekko, so beautiful. And the bosoms, yes very big. Make a kaftan, then share with a tutorial. I plan on wearing them all summer.
ReplyDeleteI love Batik, and I think that mysterious creature is a lobster; it's definitely on trend MMMC! I thnk the bosom ladies might be too.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how much treasure there is in Grandma Land. Unreal! Your four poster canopy is incredible. It explains alot about you.
Hosanna

Haha, you're always such a witty delight to read. :)
ReplyDeleteYou certainly scored some amazing things from the home of Grandma ...
PS. Batik is SO this season! ;)
Hosanna

Sorry couldn't help it! R&S is such a bad influence.
Loving all of your fabric though.
Pam x
Ha. Ha. R&S and Pam.
ReplyDeleteNext person to say 'Hosanna' gets to mind Child 3 for the afternoon. You'll never say 'Hosanna' again.
Hosanna, Hosanna, Hosanna! Send him over anytime.
ReplyDeleteI can picture you as a little Marimekko Princess.
Grandma is way cool! I'm off to Bali in June. I can see I'll have to do a bit of batik spotting or be forever labelled uncool :)
ReplyDeleteOk - am officially in love with the bed spread. Adore it, all other bed spreads for Farmgirl's room will now be second best...
ReplyDeleteIs it bad though, if I say the polynesion fabric would make good curtains for one of those panel vans with swamp women painted on the back....? I think it is bad because it may give away my slightly bogan upbringing (only slight mind...) I agree it would also make a good caftan. For those less bogan than myself.
The mini me chairs completely rock.
Your post has improved my Sunday afternoon no end.
Love from The Farm
Love the Tahiti print
ReplyDeleteWow, your mum is a gem to have stashed away all that fabric. And to have had actual Marimekko in the 70s - kudos!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love every single thing in that you ever get from the land of Grandma. The Marimekko bedspread is amazing. And anything from Tahiti is right up my alley...xx
ReplyDeleteWow, that's one cool nan you have. I love the marimekko bug have to say, those big boobies make me a little nervous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous doona cover! I want it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe land of Grandma is indeed a magical place and one which I'm extremely envious of. What a haul! That cheeky Marimekko hiding away from you all that time. What a prize possession. As for the bright blue Tahiti fabric - I'd be stretching that puppy over some canvas quick as a flash (but that's just me 'cause I can't sew!).
ReplyDeleteUh-oh, bogan is back! What a great post -- just the hose spray on the bush turkeys was good enough for me, but it just kept on giving. I don't think I would dare wear the big ladies! Love the little chairs, way too good for Playmobil people. When they learn to bend their legs, maybe.
ReplyDeleteStop.....with.....all.....this .....fabric...it's making me hyperventilate! That is the ultimate stash of all stashes. Any chances of a giveaway with the prize being a daystay at the land of Grandma with unlimited ferreting rights?
ReplyDeleteThe marimekko is gorgeous, cannot believe you had a canopy bed with that on top. Did your Barbie have a matching set? The butterfly batik is lovely too. The giant bosomed women fabric should be made into a dress and used to freak out in-laws you don't like at family get togethers. Would be a good test to see if anyone would actually look you in the eye while talking.
Get that 4th child her own bed.Pronto. In fact show her the canopy set up and that cot is straight to the curbside. Melx.
Ditto what you said on my Berkeley post. I can only say it so many times. I let out a scream when I saw the marimekko canopy! The land of Grandma is right up there with Modernaire and OMCA! Fantastic! Amazing! Wow! Will you take me to L.O.G.?? Please?
ReplyDeleteAll the fabric is FABULOUS but that Marimekko I'm coveting dang Girl you hit the mother load at Grannies house and she took the kids she needs a crown! enjoy every minute because they do come home, lol
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely fabric finds. I'd be singing Hosanna evertime I looked at them. That bedspread is too cute.
ReplyDeleteI have a turquoise dress that mum got in Hawaii! Your flower print made me think of it.
Can't wait to see what fashionable batik looks you'll soon be sporting!
Ha ha, mine didn't even have to utter the word Hosanna before being sent on their way to 'Nanna-World', two at least. And I have to agree with Daughter 1 that wonderful as all your fabric is, those big-bosomed girls are horribly rude ... horribly rude.
ReplyDeleteI've no doubt she will love Pippi Longstockings, we have that same copy here and it is a favourite with all. Enjoy your week.
When fashioning your mu-mu you'll have to be a little 'on the boob' with your positioning of the print - altho I dare you to end up with boobies on your boobies or bosoms on your bottoms. I dare say it could be the solution to Annie's Maya finally deciding to stop breastfeeding...
ReplyDeleteLove the bedspread too, lovey.
I'm loving your Hosanna pun with the bush turkey. Your mum sounds a bit like mine, she never got rid of anything which is a good thing in this case. I concur with Child 1, that fabric is a bit racy! The others are lovely though.
ReplyDeleteLove your little chairs very groovy. I'm a joiner:
Hosanna
Hosanna
Hosanna
What time will I expect Child 3 on the plane?
HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hosanna! If someone should happen to break in to the Land o' Grandma in the middle of the night and leave her without many bags of fab fabric and magnificent miniatures, don't look at me.
ReplyDeleteI love Grannies, especially Grannies giving things away, second best is Grannies selling things, ha. LOVE it ALL! Enjoy the peace and quiet, cheers Katherine
ReplyDeleteLove all the fabric and the dollhouse furniture is amazing! Love your blog, now following! Miss Walker xoxo
ReplyDeleteDear me, Grandma land sounds like a magical place. What treasures - especially the old marimekko, seriously covetable. We love the Lauren Child illustrated Pippi. It's a beautiful volume and the same good old tale. My daughter fantasises about living on her own, so it really appeals to her!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower - off to have a look around!
Oo-er a bit behind times as briefly without internet connection. Love all your fabric etc but the best bit is child one's comment about 'rude'. Mt EM and I love 'rude' and it is our key word. I'll say no more as I expect you get it.
ReplyDeletebatik, marimekko, arne jacobsen... grandma land sounds amazing!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great trip to grandma's house! Love your fabric find but the Marimekko quilt & canopy made me squeak out loud! How cool that you grew up sleeping under that!!! Oh, and your chairs are awesome! Those playmobil folks are lounging in style! Hope you are having a great week!
