Another weekend, another fete.
Fairy floss, dagwood dogs, lucky-dip bags ...
suburban footpaths, once paved, then hack one for yourself.
Another book. This one will take me longer than a week to get through. So many quirky characters, endless loopy surnames, such crazy ye olde English. What the Dickens?
Got 'round to pinning the quilt. I'll sew straight lines next weekend, and then it'll need binding.
Should've used a bigger casserole dish for this macaroni.
Margaret's come through with the goods. Made her hearty beef casserole tonight. Yum.
And tomorrow, we'll do her split pea and ham de soupage.
Chocolate chip biscuits. Everyone LOVES my chocolate chip biscuits!

So glad Margaret came up trumps. The vesuvial macaroni made me smile.
ReplyDeleteAm a little concerned as I think people believed you (bless their cotton socks) when you said you found my blog by searching for "eating apricot chicken, sitting on verandah and watching driveway"....
I read Bleak House years ago. It was, um, bleak. I love Dickens though Just not too often.
So with you on short weekends.
Take care.

Farmer's Wife T,
ReplyDeleteMargaret's been fab so far. Thank you. You're a trail blazer, driveway gazer.
I saw your comments. Laughed. Glad you knew I was being silly.
I like Dickens too, and also not too often. Last time I read him was in the early 90s. And that's not the early 1890s.
Back to work chicken.xo
Ah, the case of Jardyce versus Jardyce and the lawyers and family who spent generations ... That book definitely left its mark on me. Fetes and chocolate biscuits are so much more fun. I don't think one can go to too many fetes (or fairs); it sounds like your weekends are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWell yes ... obviously everybody LOVES your chocolate chip biscuits!
ReplyDeleteBack to the salt mines. Weekends go by way to fast. Sounds like it was a fun weekend for the clan. See you next time around. The mac and cheese made me hungry.
ReplyDeleteHey Bleak House is the 'heavy' legal one. The awful prolonged dispute in the Court of Chancery. You'll love it. Dickens was a clerk in Gray's Inn ( my inn)at some point as you probably know. I mostly read Dickens as a child (nose stuck in a book from an early age), and loved his writing. Though have to admit I only know Bleak House from the wonderful BBC TV adaptions - the most recent in 2005 - well worth getting hold of the boxed set if you can.
ReplyDeletePlease don't force feed those lovely children your choc chips. Pack them up and post to me!!! ( The children or the biscuits, either will be given a good home.)Cx
Another happy weekend away from the salt mines.
ReplyDeleteI know you're only trying to impress the rest of the bus with your Dickens.
I read a large selection of his books at high school.
Some I enjoyed; some I tried to wade through , in vain.
Pretty wordy and heavy English.(and ?out-dated)
What a lovely trivet! Surely there must be a character in a Dickens novel somewhere named Mrs Trivet? A cook or something? It looks so warm up there. I LOVE your chocolate chip cookies.
ReplyDeleteThe bigger casserole dish is at my place! There was a bit of Dickens on Q and Q the other night. Choc chip bikkies keep appearing at our door. One day we go two batches by different women who were friends. The offspring were master chef judging the against each other. I may never bake again!
ReplyDeletePS. Dapper Dan makes me laugh! Haven't thought of pea and ham in a slow cooker- clever clogs! Someone dropped that in on Sunday and we had mac cheese on Saturday. Have you been over without telling me?!
