Amma the Mama Hugga

Last night, the Husband told me that he heard it takes a WHOLE YEAR for an more-than-40-year-old to find a job.

That shattering piece of news sent me into a downward spiral where I didn't really want to get out of bed this morning.

I did get out of bed. Eventually. Just in time to enrol this kid in daycare one-day-a-week. I'm not sure why I did, but I did.

So, this afternoon, the Husband suggested that, maybe, I need the healing touch of Amma, the Mama Hugga.

Here are her tour dates if you're on-the-nose employment-wise and after a hug.

Rather than hugging some Indian woman I don't know, I've thrown myself into some sewing.

I've made someone a skirt for her first school dance. She's cute, isn't she?

I bet she's the only girl wearing fabric from Ikea. She doesn't mind because it's a mix of manga-nordic images.

She looks happier now than she looked when we tripped the light fantastic at Mt Tamborine and partook in some visuals of the Rural Firefighters' Competition.

It was no 'One Direction' Concert, let me tell you.

Mt Tamborine was covered in camellias.

And mossy bits-and-pieces from my childhood.

Not many people know,

but I was raised

 in ancient Rome.

Look, it's Fifi the Flower Tot.

  1. Your big girl looks awesome. Love her skirt, boots AND haircut.

p.s. I would be bored wittless at the fire-fighting thingo too.

p.p.s. My daughters are counting down the days until tickets go on sale for One Direction. Sad, but true. I wonder if there was a mix-up in the maternity ward before I brought them home???

    1. Kylie,
there was lots of hose throwing at the Fire-fighting thingo, so I thought it was thrilling.

18 months is a long time to wait to see Harry, Niall et al on home turf.

      You're beautiful.

    1. Yes, Miss Max. I'd probably wear it too. But have been informed that one can't dance in 'boots'. That's when the Mother rolls her eyes.

  3. Keep looking at your sweet pea and making her pretty things, don't get me started on one direction, I had students in tears in my classroom and don't despair or listen to well meaning husbands! :)

    1. A whole year. Thank goodness I'm not past 50 and then I could add another six-months, but I could get insurance with APIA which would balance things out a bit.

    1. I think Dapper Dan has nits which explains the floral headdress.

Who needs a poodle when you have nits?

    1. Thank you Sarah B. I should have been a Vet and then I could be Molly's personal physician!

  7. I only found out who One Direction are this week, fortunately my kids are yet to cotton on. They've just discovered Kris Kristoffersen. What's the Indian Mama charging for a hug, I'll do one for half the price, and throw in a chardy for next to nothing.

  8. Love the pixie haircut of your big girl! We've just planted some beautiful camellias only to have some #*#*#* possums strip the tops of them. No wonder I don't usually plant things.

  9. That little Dancer looks perfect. I predict a trend coming. We could be seeing One Direction in Manga Nordic bow ties any day.

  10. I would have thought the boots added to the mysery of one's first dance. But what would I know?
I wasted my 4 last years at a prominent girls' school formally run by Mercy nuns.
Suffice it to say girls danced with class mates at the concert. It was a male-free zone and then some.
    C#1 looks fabulous.

  11. Year schmear. That person was probably Pauline Hanson. I wouldn't employ her either. But you on the other hand.....

  12. As Zigsma would say - Oh Camellia you're breaking my heart. Childcare move is clever, one less day to organise when you commence paid employment. I'm not so clever. Do I pray to St Anthony to find some childcare? I need a Saint.
Child One is gorgeous. Great sewing Mama. I like the outfit very much!

  13. You're too darn fuuny! BYE looks so happy in her dancing clothes. Love her boots too. You are a woman of mysterious depths. How does MM enjoy her day care? Love FiFi too. I'm sure you will get a great job soon. Let people see the real you. Or not.

  15. How cool is that first dance outfit???!! I cringe when I think of mine, but we did live in Cairns, and it was hot, and mesh tshirts were fashionable (apparently they are again...) So cool that bit about Ancient Rome. Who woulda guessed? I have no idea about the one year thing. I just condensed my resume to a single page - now I look like an old woman who's done very little. Wierd.

  16. One year! Too scary, though I will have good reason for not working when I return home. Aren't these tidbits of information so helpful. I was told the other day if I do not return to work within the next year then just forget about working altogether! Do not despair, reflect on your own productivity, very impressive stuff.
