Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow

Thank you for all your supportive comments re the new job. Really. The great thing about blogging is that you have such a broader community with which you can share the vicissitudes - the good news and the bad news; the ups and the downs; the highs and the lows.

This is a how Martha dresses herself when given Free Reign.

This job means a lot to the MMMC's because for the last seven years everyone's made sacrifices across a whole lot of areas.

But now there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hopefully, my position isn't one the new Premier has lined-up for the axe.

I saw Annie yesterday. She only made me cry twice. I mentioned this house to her, and said I'd post about it. From the photos, I'm going to make the brazen assumption that the owners don't realise what a groovy thing they're living in.

I think it's a cracker.

Annie  inspired me to start crocheting. I'm stuck on the chain stitch and it's a roller-coaster I just can't get off.

Now that I'm working, I'm thinking of making the blog private. But having a private blog's such a pain in the neck ... anyone who wants to read it has to be 'invited', then they have to re-follow, and then there's no 'feed' for posts, so I could be posting my little heart out on all manner of intriguing topics and you'd never know ... but then, remain public, and I'm not sure I want people I work with reading.

What to do, what to do? I'll go to Ikea tomorrow, and think about it.

  1. Hi Carmel I understand where you're coming from. Surely Blogger's made it easier to do since the last time you gave it a whirl? J x

  2. Congrats on your job! and welcome to the daycare juggle!

  3. Oh Martha, that little lady is a good egg.
I'm so happy for you re the job, but re the blog and job, well, hardly anyone at my job knows I do it. One person who I've known since school and one of the receptionists who likes Molly. Other than that they have no idea. I even got a small project running for an event at work with an arty blogger and just asked her to keep it mum. It's not the end of the world if they know, but I like to keep it separate, so know where you are coming from.
ps love that house too! I'd love a semi-indoor/outdoor sunroom setup.

  4. Nice fleurs! Are they for you? Or from you to the rest of the MMMCs? There's always a bit of restructuring etc when a new government comes in (which is why we're living in the Can and not the Chillly), but I'm sure you'll be fine no matter what! And worrying over these things won't change what will happen. I know! I've been worrying over things for years and it doesn't make a jot of difference. Can you make your blog private and we can subscribe via email?

  5. Martha's knees are the bees!
Congrat's on your new job, wonderful. I knew that board would choose the best person and they did! I totally get where you're coming from re the privacy thing, but please invite me if you decide to go all top secret. I love that house. Those brown tiles = gorgeous. Have a lovely weekend.

  6. Exciting times ahead! I've been at home for almost 8 years with the kids now so know exactly where you are coming from there - I'd buy myself flowers every week I reckon! I'm so happy you got to see Annie, so sweet seeing fellow blogger get together :-) With the working/blogging thing - how would your new work even know about your Blog? Please don't go. Well I think you've nailed the chain stitch there :-D I just learned to do granny squares on Pips Meet Me At Mikes if you want to find a super easy tutorial to get to the next step. Mel x

  7. House is very cool. You'd be tempted if it were slightly bigger for your brood.
Also, re private blog thing. I just wouldn't worry about that at all. I've shown Jason's hairless semi clad body all over my blog and his work mates ( or clients) still don't know about the blog...( I think) and I don't think they'd care either. It might get him more business if the knew he was THE Jason from Fun and VJs!

  8. I tell you I think one day I can see myself living in The Gap (cripes did I really say that ... well maybe when they get a bus way out there), so so so many modern homes!

That reminds me, I've not trawled realestate.com.au in some time .... no must work on uni stuff..

I wouldn't worry about making the blog private as googling your name doesn't bring up the blog so unless you plan on turning MMMC in to "Make Mine Tales of Working for QLD Gov" and if you do, I penned that name first and have naming rights ...

Martha - she looks so fresh faced and those socks..

  9. Oh that Martha is priceless. She and Liongirl need to open a boutique featuring the 17 ways you can layer pink. Keep the blog, some people at my work know and I just work on not giving a stuff what anybody thinks and not posting pics of myself in my undies really. melx

  13. I do understand re work and nosey buggers. I would definitely go private in your circs as long as you invite me(!) But perhaps you could have two separate blogs? Though good luck with that as I have been trying and failing for a couple of years. Cx

  15. yes, Ikea is a good place to think. I think you have enough good discretion to keep your blog public!
    Love Martha's outfit!
ps, I just finished painting my nails before reading this post.

  17. I have worked for what feels like forever. Worked in the steel industry, mining, road construction. My latest job is with a well known engineering company. I used to go as far as ignoring that I was female. This was difficult through my 4 pregnancies. As I have gotten older (almost 40) I worry less about people at work know about my private life. In fact, it is what makes me good at my job. I do however keep my tattoos covered at work. You will work out what feels right to you.

  18. Do what you think's best ... just make sure my invite's in the mail.

  19. I don't think you've put your name ever on your blog so unless there is someone who you work with that reads blogs, and then puts 2 & 2 together (and yes, I have discovered they're out there) then I think your identity should be safe? Worth the risk vs the hassle I say. LOVE the house too. Thanks for sharing.

    wherewhatwhen?
i hope ikea will provide you with the answers you need.
    and further more,

  21. I don't think working/blogging matters as a pair - it's your private life you're blogging about, not your worklife, and they needn't know. Martha is a happy, happy sight.

  22. Ha, poor Martha - she looks just like my girls did in all the photos their granny took of them when they were small. Up against the wall like they were in an identity parade, still fun for laughs now they're in their teens and twenties. My miss Molly loved get ups like that when she was small - she still dresses in her own style. Seems to be acceptable both at preschool and at university. I'll be sad to see you go I feel like we only just met.

  23. Martha's expression is SO funny! The girls style is indisputable - and I hope she has free reign with that wonderful Grandmother. I need one of those.
IKEA is wonderful for contemplation. Follow the arrows, walk in circles. If only they played the soundtrack to Mignight Express.
