It was the dolls' house. This one measures about 25 inches in height, so it could be used as a largish shadow box. We're not short of dolls' houses in this house, which makes me think we have an obsession with them. Those boys!!
As with the one I dragged from the footpath some time ago, I'm not really sure what to do with this one. But for $10, I couldn't leave it there. I may paint it orange and line the floors with wallpaper. The back walls are MDF VJs, which can only really be painted.
Now, hold onto your Glomesh, this is what I also brought home ...
A couple of books ... I would never have read a second-hand book when I was young. Really. They disgusted me. But Child One doesn't mind. In fact, she's decided The Bobbsey Twins are just smashing! And the Dick and Jane book is almost new.
Someone's read it though, because I found this note inside.
Lawrence and Kevin were so caught up in the adventures of Dick, Jane and Spot that they forgot to feed Fluff.
Oh, no! Oh, look! Oh! Oh! Funny!
A perfect melamine Alitalia tray. Great for handing around chocolates in the car.
Some Japanese woodland creatures and a dog.
Another woodland creature.
I popped into Anon Annie's the other day, and she has an amazing Japanese ceramic squirrel. I think it made some sort of lasting impression on me, because when I was in the Op Shop I thought I was buying deer, and realised I'd left with a few squirrels instead.
A fabulous Hornsea sugar pot and the dog.
A piece of English Norville-ware which was in the Op Shop the last time I was there, so I thought I should relieve it of its desire to be acquired. Pattern's nice.

I'm taking part in Stella's Vintage Kitchen Swap. I think some of these things may be perfect to send to someone. Why don't you consider tagging along? More the merrier, I say.
Some Belgium glass ...
And two Perth tea towels. There were four all-up.
I'm off to do some ironing. I've raised the standards around here somewhat.
Fin.

That's a dog? I have matching Belgian glass canister things! One big, one small. Nice ope shopeing.
ReplyDeletePS - You are out of squirrel food.
ReplyDeleteUuuummm i think i love the sugar pot best!
ReplyDeleteI've just picked up some vintage Aussie teatowels too - what to do with them!?
I guessed it! Quite proud of myself. Saw another creative type making ties from her teatowels... perhaps your little dandy would like a Perth bowtie for his collection?
ReplyDeleteZigsma,
ReplyDeleteit looks like a dog. Maybe it's a deer. I wonder if my Belgium glass is the missing link in your collection? Measurements?
Jennie,
are you in the swap?
Thanks for the mention! And great treasures to bring home. Ahhh, nothing like a successful op shop trip!
ReplyDeleteSee MMMC run. See MMMC buy things at Op Shop. See MMMC play with her dolls house!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Bobbsey twins. They are somewhat politically incorrect for these times. I love Dick and Jane too. I may have a few of those tomes lying around here somewhere.
Anna,
ReplyDeleteties? I'd never considered that. I've noticed that bow ties for women are back on the agenda, which pleases me.
Stella,
it's a perfect swap idea. I often bring things home and think, 'I like this, but I really don't need it.' Possibly why I give things away every now and then. I hope more people jump on board.
Debbage,
funny, Deb. Those tomes better not be languishing on a New Brunswick roadside. Keep them!!
Great haul! Loooove that dollhouse/shadow box. Agree that it was a must-buy.Totally jeal.
ReplyDeleteCould the dog be an otter or am I just hooked on cute and charming non- Australian vermin since I got squirrelled. Speaking of which, I opened the grain bin yesterday to feed the chooks and found a huge gnarly brush tailed possum growling up at me. I can't imagine squirrels behaving so rudely.
ReplyDeleteI'm one of those annoying types coming back to gloat - I was right!
ReplyDeleteYou have great taste as there's no way I could have left without the dolls house and the teatowels.
Oh, I thought you have already a dollhouse? No, no, I'm just kidding, dear Carmel. We don't go into an op-shop to buy something really necessary, right? But the tea towels will be absolutely necessary...
ReplyDeleteWhat about your Au-Pair from Finland?
All the best for you and your family,
xo Ariane
You sure have raised the standards solely by using that gorgeous floral fabric. :)
ReplyDeletePam x
You went on a spree! All those things. I thought you went back for the lady with her arms in the mist. Oh well, you did well to go back for the dolls house. I like the Belgium glass too. I've never heard of it before...
ReplyDeleteI loved the Bobbsey Twins when I was a kid, my fave was The Bobbsey Twins go the Seaside, I've still got it...somewhere...
ReplyDeleteI could not have left that dolls house there either, despite having the 6 level version in my lounge room. We could start a shadow box and dollhouse appreciation society you and I! Loving your vintage books, I just found a Richard Scarry that we do not have and it is on high rotation for bedtime stories( The Steamboat mystery 1976 in case you were curious, or a fan. Loving the idea of a vintage kitchen swap- will investigate.
ReplyDeletesuch beautiful objects : )
ReplyDeleteI thought you bought it all...hmmm. Love the sweet house and the covered pot Momma.
ReplyDeletethat note was adorable!
I feel nervous about the raised standards. I feel it is never a good thing to have standards it just gives me something else to feel crap about when the standards inevitably fall. The house is very cute...the Vj's made me think of brismod so maybe you should paint it Dulux white in her honour ha, cheers Katherine
ReplyDeleteI was right on the doll's house, but didn't know you were into tea towel memorabilia .
ReplyDeleteIn travels past, I made a point in collecting at least 2 tea towels from the spot of stoppage.
Some are starting to wear out now!
O tempora! O mores!
That is a dinosaur embryo with the sugar pot.
Annie, I could have assumed you were another chook lover. But, a savage possum in the chook food is just not cricket.
Oh, no - now you have to go back for that letter rack. Kidding, I love the house, I'd get that too. And The Bobbsey Twins, almoust forgot about them Love finding notes and things inside books.
ReplyDeleteAlitalia made silly usless trays, that's why they didn't have the money keep and pay all their flight attendants and employees. Carmel, you just solved Italy's biggest mistery.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I've just discovered your blog (via Lilli above!).....I am drooling over these photos....fantastic op-shopping!! :)
