Calling all Corporate Lawyers and/or Interior Decorators

I gotta hit the books, Readers!

Last night I casually, and then alarmingly, flicked through my Corporate Law study guide and Corporate Law text book.

None of you mentioned it was a difficult area of the Law!

Further, some of you failed to point out there'd be words I wouldn't understand, and concepts which would fall squarely in the esoteric.

I was hoping it'd be akin to this ...

Or this ...

No. The 1633 pages of the textbook are wafer-thin. Like the Bible. And filled with non-biblical words like "shares" and "regulations" and "directors" and "floating charges".

So, if any of you have also failed to highlight the fact that you're a corporate lawyer, I'd appreciate your speaking up about now before things start getting seriously complicated for us here at the MC hacienda.

I have other issues of concern - especially with my placement of the orange Bitossi.

It's as if the colour has thrown me!

I've moved a table from near the front door to upstairs ... but I'm not happy with the table ... it's too colonial for my liking. But it'll have to do.

So this became the front entrance. It's a bit bare. I just can't seem to get it right. I think I'll have to pair the chair with a hardy, but 'welcoming', plant.

I thought I'd mix-it-up upstairs with a bit of Fisher Price ... there's an orange-tinge in the Sesame Street apartment block. You'll notice the tangerine cat's not there.

When Emo Child 1 initially saw it, she said she wanted it. And then when I said, 'Here you go, darling daughter" ... she said, "No. I don't want it". And she shut her door. That's so Emo.

So, I put the cat on these shelves .... but then this morning I noticed the shelves were cat-less. I ventured cautiously into Child 1's bedroom and I found it here.

Child 1's not that Emo ... she's stealthy, but how many Emos have fairies? I think she's pseudo-Emo.

Now, I'm in an interior decorating dilemma! A quandary! A conundrum! I'm flummoxed and bamboozled. The orange things didn't look great on the now-upstairs colonial entrance table.

I thought about arranging them here somehow ...

But I think it's too blue and teak.

I tried another space ...

But it looked bare - like the front entrance now looks.

So I positioned a few prints about ...

And then I moved the lamp. I think the interior decorating mathematicians say items should be grouped in threes. It's not working for me.

Then I carried the table back downstairs ... and cleaned it up a bit. I still haven't any plants.

The washing machine is no closer to being fixed.

Here it is with some washing I put in it, in the hope it might recall its sole earthly purpose. It hasn't cottoned-on yet ... and the repairman doesn't get here until Wednesday.

Noodle insinuated he'd keep an eye out for him ... his old doggedness senses my agitation.

  1. Oh my, that law course sounds pretty bad. Do you enjoy torturing yourself that way? Don't you have enough to do with just arranging vintage orange items nicely?

  2. Can I just say...when I was going to college, my house was spotless. Why? Because it was a great way to avoid my studies. Procrastination leads to very clean and arranged houses. Get busy girl. Time to hit the books. Do I sound naggy? Sorry, it's the mom in me.

  3. Bitossi and colonial is a hard one. I feel your pain. They are gorgeous pieces. I'd be inclined to mix it in with the blue in the teak wall unit...Oh and good luck with Corporate Law...

  4. Loving the fisher price/Bitossi mix. Go back to that one.

  5. I think orange goes with green.
So it seems that plants are screaming at the back door to be included in the mix.
    Some soft edges needed perhaps?
    Any chance of downlights??????

  6. I only failed two subjects at uni - corporate law was one, so sorry. (In my defence it was before the internet made studying an entirely different place, and the tute was at 8am, and it's very cold at 8am in winter.)
I'm also thinking the orange could go with the blue.
With your entrance... I'll ruminate on it.

  8. The only time my house is immaculate is when I am procrastinating and I don't have anything else to do like knitting, sewing or reading for pleasure.

  9. Unfortunately I don't know anything about Corporate Law, I'm sorry. I also unfortunately don't know anything about interior decoration. For what it's worth, my solution would be to put everything referred to above on one table all crammed in together and then buy more stuff to fill the extra spaces around the place ;-)

  10. Harry The Dirty Dog is a three generation family favourite and I know what you mean about law books. I silently cried through Public Law but didn't take the corporate law option so wish you all the best! However I claim a high degree in interior decoration and suggest that you replace the blue on the room divider with orange. And lose the deco lady globe lamp. Go with the Scandinavian style. As for the Colonial buffet - why not paint it in Gustavian grey? I also recommend that for your stick hall chair. Never mind green plants - flowers, flowers, flowers. Just my view so wishing you all the best!

  11. You must contact the Dutchman immediately for more orange Bitossi to compete with the blue, then explain gently to the husband that this investment is vital to the balance in his home and, thus, to the aesthetic well- being of his beloved. Put blue and orange in different parts of the teak to make it like they live on different floors but are still good neighbours. Or pop out and buy another smaller piece of M.C. teak for the entry using the same justification then you can go Piacasso and have an orange phase, a blue phase..etc. As for the law book, run a bath and skim over it whilst the childs read quietly in an adjacent room listening to Beethoven for Babies and smiling knowingly at each other as they hear the muffled sobs from the bathroom.

  12. Deb,
I'm too far down the lonely Law road to turn back now.

Mid-Cent Madam, you have made me knuckle down. Though I'm at the computer all day which is why it seems like I'm on it all the time.

BrisMod, CK, DMC & Anna, I think I've fixed the orange display problem.

Konfettiform, I think everyone should live in that Barcelona house, but then everyone would look through its beautiful large windows and see how messy mine is.

    Kotaatok, keep knitting.

Erin, you just want an excuse to buy more plastic food.

Ms E-Maison, I have wondered where you were. Thanks for your tips. I agree, some of my decor is contradictory.

Annie, I don't think I should have to muffle my sobs.

  13. you just need to paint the walls white
    that'll solve all your problems
crisp white - like Antique USA - the perfect foil for orange
