What we wore today ...

On the holidays, I tell my children,"I don't paint or do play-doh because that's why I pay expensive school and kindy fees".

So they can do all that at school/kindy when they return.

Instead, I'm happy to read them books.

One of the books we've read is ...

You may know it.

If you don't, here are the first two pages to give you an idea of Pierre's precociousness.

See? He's a right, french-named brat. But don't worry, he gets his comeuppance when he's consumed by a heavily-maned, polite carnivore.

Regardless of my dislike for Pierre, I decided today to adopt his mantra ...

Every day these holidays, I've slung-on an apron because I'm always wiping my hands on my clothes. An apron's practical but not attractive .... to that I say "I don't care"!

Child 1 is doing her best attempt at being the country's youngest 'Emo'. She wears this everyday as she knows it irritates me.

Today I said, "I don't care".

Child 2 wore his usual three-piece suit, and then tonight acted the giddy-goat, adopted a high-pitched squeal and pretended to be a girl.
 To that I said, "I don't care"!

Child 3 wore his pyjamas for the last 24 hours, and only dressed in a fresh pair of clothes after his bath tonight.

I decided at 10:30 this morning, "I don't care"!

Child 4 splashed in the bath like a baby possessed. And considering the danger posed by slippery tiles,
I said "I don't care!"

  3. I know you don't care - but I love aprons too. Unfortunately, I don't have the MC range that you do. A batik singapore pick up, few old pub ones and a my favourite - nicked from the Denim Expert at the Gap Kings Road. It has lots of pockets for snotty tissues, bits of lego and coins from the laundry and beer bottle tops from my knock off drinks.

  4. Reader 3,
I've missed you! I included photos of Child 4 for the Denim Expert. Better read tomorrow, I'm working on a corker! My knock-off drinks tend to come in casks. I haven't found a pocket big enough for them yet.
    Yours in cloth cleanliness,
    MMMC.

  5. I have been viewing, often - just silenced by your prolificnessness (sp) and a little displaced (but excited) that you have more than 3 readers now.

Nb you could fit a silver bladder in that apron pocket.

  6. Reader 3,
you're right. I should be recycling, ASAP, the cardboard. I know Maija Isola only ever envisaged silver plastic bags going with Unikko. That is the Finnish way.

As for the prolificnessness, when I think I'm done, then the synapses kick-in and I churn out more rubbish.

Wait 'til tomorrow. It'll be a blast from the past.

Then I might call it 'quits'.

  8. I'm going out to buy "Pierre" tomorrow. I've no money to spare - but I don't care! Just thing thing for my Australian granddaughter's third birthday in a few weeks. She's recently told her devoted parents to, " Stop annoying me". I think they need this book! Looking forward to your next post for some further xmadnessx modern childrearing advice.

  9. What's your problem with very smart Marimekko apron?
    But, I suppose, I don't care either.
