Going, Going, Gone!

I'm Going Out for dinner tomorrow night.

Just me and these two ladies ... this is an old photo of us sitting on a rock. As a reference, I'm on the left.

The Husband and I never Go Out. We prefer to be at home, to be honest. Mainly because, for the cost of Going Out, you can feed the 4xChilds a few times.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Going Out. But I don't know what to wear, because as I said, I never Go Out.

I went to boarding school and the closest thing to Going Out was being allowed to sit on a couch and watch the TV show a Senior told us we'd be watching.

Here are some unfortunate boarders on a couch.

One day a Boarder Mistress said, "Okay, you can Go Outside for a bit". Look how excited everyone got at the thought of Going Out. See the girl on the far-right charging for the door?

I was jubilant because my "Boarder Mistress Voodoo doll" had started to have some effect ... it's hidden in, what looks to be, a camera case around my neck. Fools!

I guess the Senior Formal was a bit like Going Out ... this lad took me to the Formal as a favour to my brothers. The dressmaker did me no favours when she stressed the black and emerald green sateen she pulled from the "HAS TO GO!" basket, was the cusp of high-fashion in the late 80s.

After I left school, I went Out a lot. I had some initial issues with my hair and the amount of makeup I wore ... see I have a little bit of lipstick on my teeth?

So I decided to ditch the makeup and instead accessorised with silly shirts; colourful, sickly drinks; ridiculously huge glasses; and cheap neck attire.

When I Go Out tomorrow night, maybe I'll meet some interesting people ...

Hopefully, not someone like this girl. She looks bored.

And here she is again looking surly, or snaky, with some happy older people.

I should go and decide what to wear. I'll wear what I look best in ... a big-pocketed, green-spotted apron and some bright red lipstick.

  1. Oh God. I'm laughing my head off... lipstick on my teeth... you are GUARANTEED to have a good time tomorrow night. My husband and I rarely go out together either - it's just so much cheaper for only one to go and the other to mind the kids. So do enjoy yourself and be careful with the lippy.

  2. My dear you must Go Out more often no matter the cost! It is sanity saving. Your photos are cute. I'm glad you cut down on the makeup though. Get a New Outfit or at least a new apron to wear. Have fun and report back to us with all the gory details.

  3. Oh funny, funny, funny! My cup of tea went cold reliving your youth.

As for what to wear - just throw a flower lei over your apron or yellow overalls.

Get down low and go, go, go.

  4. OMG, I recognise some of those young girls- were you a boarder at Stuartholme at Toowong in the nid 1980s???????? Brisbane is 1 degree of separation! Your formal dress is quite nice. Mine was awful. Enjoy your night out. On Friday I went to Peasant at Barracks- everyone told me to try it and it really is great. You'd like it- they have some nice orange glazed ceramic ornaments.

    love Jackie

  5. Perhaps you should consult with Child 2 about the look one is trying to pull as he seems quite the dapper dan. I think I know one of your "unfortunate boarders on a couch" . Small world!

  6. Jackie,
I have just come back from Peasant. Food was delicious. On the way back from the bathroom, I saw an orange Bitossi bull near the cash register. Was going to photograph it, but it's not the sort of place I could pull-off such a stunt.

Should I now be regretting posting the boarder photos?

    Yours in eating out rarely,
