Action.

It's all ACTION here.

As soon as I sigh 'how bored' I am, suddenly I have to crank it up-a-gear and get off the couch.

This kid turned SIX today!

His brother turns SEVEN in less than a week!

They all modelled some boxer shorts I made for them.

(Emo Child One, is more pretense than angst.)

How's Martha?! (Note to Self: Restrict Martha's 'Video Hits' viewing time.)

All that, on top of my keeping the house 'magazine ready' (cleaning. cleaning.) ...

and making sure all the orange kitchen appliances are in sync,

I have to prepare for juvenile contemporaries coming to toast the momentous Birthday Occasions tomorrow.

In preparation, I've done nothing thus far, so am thinking of a 70s-esque retro, thrown-together-at-the-last-minute-unblogworthy-party complete with sausage rolls, party pies, Cheezels, lemonade and lashings of 'Entertain yourselves, Kiddies!'

I wonder if I can muster the strength to pull it all together in less than 24 hours? With two boys having birthdays on the back of Christmas, my tolerance for celebration is at a minimum.

I'll be honest, I downright refused to construct one 'Hogwarts Castle' cake, and I refused to bake an additional 'Car Race Track' cake, but was willing to compromise on a shared 'Teddy Bear' cake. Let's see how that comes together.

And, there were major breakthroughs on the Lizard Front today.

I'll only say two words:

"JANE".

"GOODALL".

That's right.

In this suburban jungle, I saw what science can only describe as "a parental-authority-lizard showing some concern and interest in the domicile of a newly-introduced infant-slash-juvenile lizard".

Couldn't you kiss it? I'm starting to think I could. For science.

  1. Oh you crack me up, I so love reading your posts.
What a great "mag ready" interior shot. Perfect. Should be more of it.
Ok, so I'm not making sense, time for bed.
Ps love the legal finicky sticker post. Think you are a breath of fresh legal air :)

  2. What a great name for the juvenile! Jane Goodall! Come here, Jane Goodall I have sausage roll scraps for you. Do make sure baby is in the corner when the scary celebrators come! You can always do the upside down ice cream tub covered in choc ice magic with some recycled plastic reptiles out of the toy box. (Speak to Martha about that.) Or perhaps you can get Jane Goodall to jump out of the cake! Ai! Carumba! We called ours the no cook Australia Zoo cake.

  4. I shall henceforth and heretofore dub you 'The Lizard Whisperer of Brisbane.'
Those children look ready for a big career in modeling.
Happy Birthday sweet boys and good luck with the cake. Will it be orange???

  7. Dear Carmel,
Happy Birthday to your 6year old boy - and to you!
And, oh, boy, Carmel, the next will follow in a few days?!
In Germany we call this 'Irish Twins': its a nickname for children that were born in a distance about of 9 to 12 month. My sister and me are Irish Twins (I'm the older one).
So, give your oldest a big hug from me, please...

Sweet Martha is growing... you have found new babies... you Lizard whisperer!

    Your kids looks great,
    nice work, dear Carmel!

    Cheers!

  9. Its me again. I wanted to say you make me laugh. Two days in a row. And yesterday I wanted to reassure you that the legal eagles who say you with your decorative sticker would DEFINITELY had a "fintastic" time pretending to take your seriously. Cheers!
PS. I bet your house is WAAAY more "magazine ready" than mine...

  11. How are getting on with your party prep? I was very amused by your comment on the '70s plates in my book. Well-spotted! I shall start looking out for those at car boots and flea markets.

And yes, I'm still pounding the pavements. Just got back and eaten my porridge royale - see my post today.

  12. Happy Birthday to your boys, we never had the teddy bear in our house, I would like a picture to see how it turns out.

I was gardening the other day and I saw a blue tongue moving about beneath the plants and I thought to myself what a wonderful world, actually no, I thought to myself MMMC would be happy :)

I don't necessarily want to kiss the lizard but I do so want to give it a little scratch on it's head.

Also I think less Video Hits for Martha and more Rage.

  13. Two babies in 12 months, good going, especially to endure two Christmases while very heavily pregnant, phew, i popped out twins one December, demons out i say, too hot & bothered.
Happy cake-o-rama, WW never fails us, unless you go into alpha mum icing insanity. Love Posie

  15. I Love that photo of your kids modelling their boxers! Martha is adorable!! Looks like Child 3 watches his fair share of Video Hits as well...

Hope the birthday party went off without a hitch and that you are back to your happy non-celebration-ary self!

I also love the evidence of kids doing awesome fun stuff (the artwork on the floor) during the holidays rather than a perfectly clean house. Looks like way more fun!

  17. Happy birthday to the kids.

Alice, I'm sending all positive thoughts to you.

Jane Goddall, my hero. And I kiss animals all the time, not for scientific reasons, but because I'm a spinster who needs affection. Jane Goodall too, deep dow in her.

  18. I didn't think I could possibly find a lizard cute (more into the the furry kind of animal - and I do not mean tarantulas!), but I have to say... getting pretty darn close! ;-)

That is too sad about little Alice... I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
