The Move

We're moving out.

There are boxes everywhere. I was paralysed to begin with, not knowing what to pack first.

I still don't know what I should pack, so I'm just shoving stuff in boxes which I don't think we'll need for a while.

As I've been going through the detritus, I've come across some interesting things.

First are these little Catherineholm bowls.

Can you believe that at one point they only cost $3?

I say we all race to Eaton's to see what else is for sale.

WIKI-FLASH - Seems Eaton's was once Canada's largest department store. But it went into bankruptcy in 1999. Any fool could have told them that if they were selling highly collectible Norwegian enamelware for bargain basement prices, they were going to hit the wall sooner or later.

  1. Oh I feel your pain. I remember when we bought this house and I had to move put of my apartment I just sat on the floor amongst the mess in a completely vagued out stupor while family pack up stuff around me. Not fun!
BIG Congrats on your day yesterday. What a great achievement. Boy, that was one mother of a big snake too!

  2. I was just going to say Eaton's? That's Canadian. We still miss it. Seriously. Now I know why they're gone. Thanks for the info. How do you keep the place magazine ready with the boxes all over?

  3. SarahB,
Thank you. Moving is the worst. I'm really not on top of it at all. And I've never seen a longer snake in the wild. I think all the rain must have washed it out. It even had algae on its head. Bleh.

    Deb,
Eaton's seems to have been a huge Department store. Probably like our David Jones or Myer. When I say 'magazine ready' I mean 'storage magazine' ready.

  8. The only thing that will posses me to move again is if our children won't leave home (something that we won't have to worry about for at least 20 years). My heart goes out to you.

  17. OBH,
I'm a bit down about moving, mainly because I have to do most of the packing, but at the same time I'm culling like you wouldn't believe. If I read the back of a novel, and the storyline doesn't ring-a-bell, it goes! So it's good in that way.

    Megan,
I wish I could take a lizard. I can't bring myself to touch one, and I don't know if I'd be leaving their family behind, so I'll leave them with a note to the new owners to look after them for me. PS They love banana and don't like the rain etc.

  18. Super congrats on your big news! I presume this means you are moving to a midcentury mansion somewhere on a ridgeline with city views? Suspect that was the patron snake of moving and packing crossing your path- best of luck at the culling. When we bought Betsy it all happened so fast there was no time for sorting or culling - has taken us 18 months to try and catch up! melx

  20. Good luck with packing. I'm a random just start putting things in boxes person - dont think i could keep up the whole cross referenced check list scenario. It still all gets there in the end!

  21. Packing up house is ultra emotionally traumatic.
I refuse to do it again.
But, you must be congratulated on your legal success and for running down a new house.
Just don't panic. You'll get it all done well as you always do.
That snake can keep moving east.

  23. In your desire to cull before the move, I suggest you sell those catherineholm bowls to me for $3.00 each .....

Congrats on the other day as well, so exciting!

Having just packed up and culled most of our house for the first time in 20 odd years for Mum's big move I don't envy you at all!!!

Hopefully you are moving somewhere wildlife friendly... or did you buy that gorgeous Mission/Art Deco cross house that is for sale round the corner from me???
