A big post

This is a big post.

It's a big post because I have lots to talk about.

Such as, how cold it is at the moment.

Granted, it's not as cold as it gets in Norway or Canada, but tonight it's forecast to get down to 9 degrees Celsius. That's chilly in my book; more particularly in the book called: "Cold and What's Not Cold: It's all Relative".

So I've been wearing this scarf, day and night. I think it's angora? Maybe it's mohair? In my book, sometimes rabbits and goats are almost indistinguishable. That's especially true in my book called: "Goats and Rabbits: Don't be Quick to Assume".

If it gets any colder, I'll be teaming the scarf with this hat. And then I'll be toing-and-froing from school and the supermarket in a blue telephone box.

It's chilly enough to want to make warming meals. We made Potato and Sausage Casserole last night, which was delicious for a sausage meal. And I'd love to make Toad in the Hole, but it requires a cup of white vegetable fat or lard, and I'm not sure where I'd get white vegetable fat or lard or, even, what it is.
Is it just vegetable oil?

We received a surprise package from Elisabeth in Sweden yesterday. It arrived torn, so I am a bit worried that something Swedish may have fallen out.

But what was inside was enough to warm our cockles - Moomin cards and chocolates.

And pieces of vintage wallpaper.

Look at all those Moomin characters. There is a lot of them all up. These are only a few of them. Child One prides herself on her knowledge of the Moomin characters, and questions me as to their relationships with one another. She asks generally difficult, personal questions for which I have no answer, not being a Moomin and all.

Some of us were uncharacteristically unsure of Swedish chocolate to begin with ...

But we came 'round. It was a shame we had to share it all with the hoards.

Here are the hoards devouring Moomin chocolate at a rate of knots. Thank you, sweet funny Elisabeth!

Because I'm embarking on what could be my most cockamamie, life-changing idea ever, we have started to consolidate the living arrangements. I plan on moving most of 'downstairs' so it's 'upstairs'. Including toys and people.

The sewing room has become a makeshift bedroom.

I used to keep a lot of files of pictures I had cut, or torn, from magazines.

It's reassuring that over the years my tastes haven't really changed. The magazines pictures are mostly of furniture and houses.

Though, I did find a gardening file with pictures of suitable plants, and tips on lawn maintenance.

Now I use Pinterest. I love it. I think you need a Facebook account to use it, but if you are 'visual', it is very satisfying being able to 'Pin' virtually any image you see on the Internet and create virtual files for future reference. I'm not sure how I'd show you my Pinterest files.

For instance, I love 'wedges' (as opposed to 'wedgees'. That little joke would make Child 3 laugh.)

So, I could create a file on my favourite style of shoe, and I could 'Pin' the above image of some wedges at the end of some Royal pins.

Unfortunately, these books etc are calling, so I need to concentrate on them for a while. Thus, the reason for the big post. Get it all out of the system.

Shame, because I have some wallpapering which I'd much prefer embark on.

Fin.

  1. You can buy lard at the supermarket. Just because you can though doesn't mean you should...

I think your Dr Who outfit would look very fetching and be super cosy. You may be followed home by Daleks though which could be a downside.

    I like those wedges too.

  2. Oh, where to start...
First, I would like to see the phone booth! Love the idea of you hobbling around in it with your hat & scarf. Well for sure the Swedish parcel was cool, but my eye got stuck on the sewing room turned bedroom. My Marimekko radar was on... LOVE that colorful bed. Look forward to seeing what you do with that great wallpaper too! Also, I really enjoy seeing what you pin on pinterest. Hope you are having a nice week. Enjoy those big books!

  3. I'm so dumb. I just got the big post pun. Brrr it's freezing over there! We had the same temp last night and it's spring. More Moomin magic makes magnanimous mayhem.
    Hit the books Missus.

  4. Thank you for the nice long post. I needed that.
We're having a not so hot day here too...son evicted from boot camp..unable to adapt, and had to say so long to one of our canine companions. You brought a smile to an otherwise tearful day.

  5. As Homer Simpson would say, Mmmm ... lard!
Is "Superfry" (in the dairy section) lard? My mum uses it to fry the best ever salmon rissoles.
I wonder if Duck Fat would also suffice? Nothing crisps a potato like duck/goose fat ... nomnomnomnomnom!

  13. Rats - how am I going to avoid studying if you are off air? Goodluck with it all. I fear I've lost my mojo. Others are right re lard - look in cool section of the supermarket. Read the label of Copha - I think it could be vegetable lard too.

  14. Gosh, it has been getting cooler for sure. I love the autumn chill.

I also adore your folders of inspiration ... I did that for a while with fashion I liked, then kind of just got lazy and decided that I wasn't all that interested in fashion. Haha! How quickly I go from one thing to another ... have a lovely chilly week! :)
