Moomin food. Japanese Kit-Kats and Miracles!

It's chaotic here at the moment. You don't want to know.

Moomin pancake was a hit.

"Is this what Moomins eat?"

"I feel like I'm living in Moomin world!"

And when I was racing out to buy Nit Eradicator for this child ...

Nice shower cap.

I almost fell over this box that was left at the door.

If you didn't guess, it was from Helen. It contained beautiful Miffy crockery and crazy Japanese Kit-Kats and Miffy origami paper.

Helen was in Japan when the recent quake hit. She wasn't near the epicentre, thank goodness. That's the bad thing about blogs ... your circle of  'concern' widens so you find you're suddenly drawn into so many others' lives, and their 'ups' are your 'up's and their 'downs' are your 'downs' and their 'close encounters with Mother Nature' are your  'close encounters with mother nature' and their 'new Mid-Century finds' are your 'new Mid-Century finds' etc and so on. It's a whirlwind! So that their 'whirlwinds' are your 'whirlwinds'.

The box also contained a funky Japanese catalogue with these hideous creatures on the front.

Nit Boy aka Child 3 said to me, "I hope those men don't come to life at night and visit me in bed!"

And I thought, "Curses! There goes my mood board for your new room, scaredy cat!"

Mood Board for Child 3's New Room.

Anyway, the Kit Kats are slowly being taste-tested. 'Cheese' flavour made me gag, as did the white pudding one and the cherry cheese cake one.

And then there was the tea one and the purple beetrooty one and the inexplicable green one.

They ranged in colours from white to grey to green to mauve.

They all had the Kit-Katty texture but a quirky Japanese experimental food taste.

Child 2 and Martha loved every one. I'm yet to give Martha the wasabi-flavoured one. Thank you Helen for thinking of us, and dropping these over.

We were so busy fighting over Kit-Kats that we didn't notice Mary, Mother of God came to visit and perform a miracle.
One minute there's a cupboard door ....

Next minute ... Ta da!

  5. If that's what Moomins eat, sign me up.
Those KitKats are crazy, but I do love how kooky the Japanese are. The Jaws head is beyond kooky, and a little scarey in fact.
Hope you got rid of the nits!

  8. Those kit kats are scary. I like the scary in your closet though.

I could somehow see nitboy in the bedroom you're planning.

What is a Moomin pancake pray tell? It looks delish.

  9. I think it is a miracle that your cupboard is so tidy. Is Mary your new au pair? She has very good references I hear.

  10. priceless! what fun it is to get a parcel of candy - I know from experience :)
Also, that shark on the wall is terrifying! I could not sleep with that in my room. I'd wake up in the middle of the night and see it looming over me....*shudder*.

  12. Cheese kit-kats? I know this should be a one way ticket to gagsville, but strangely I'm just thinking 'what kind of cheese are we talking?'. Because maybe mozzerella could work, but Stilton is going to be more challenging. Also, I thought the Japanese weren't big on dairy? Hmm. More questions than answers.

Anyhoo, just found you and your blog looks fun.

  13. Child#3 is definitely allowed a downer right now.
He battles nits with a green shower cap and has a great white shark breaking through his bedroom wall each night pretending to sing lullabies.
No foul tasting kitkat should also be inflicted upon his tragic environment.
But, Helen, I'm glad you're home and possibly recovering from the Japanese trauma which so obviously addled your shopping expeditions.
Well intentioned though, without a doubt.

  14. Boo nits, yay Kits...I'll stick with the originals. Gray chocolate just looks bad. Nit boy looks good in his little plastic cap and Martha in the basket made me grin from ear to ear. Sweet!

  15. Just had the thought that that shark might scare the nits clean off your boy's head... green nit cap- not so dapper, Mum!
Mary seems to have lost something. Could she be searching for the long time no see Cupcake Jesus. What a shock to find the Toddler of the Wicker instead!

I have a feeling that the shark teeth would be a "jawsome" coat rack/holder of loose clothing items.

  17. Helen,
ha! Your comment is too funny. I watched the Simpleton's video and was dragged back to another era. I think I'm married to the Mayor of Simpletons.

Jawesome comment about the coat rack!

  18. That shark mood board is just screaming to have a little sister stuffed into it. The mystery ingredient in those kitkats- melamine- would explain the picnic plate colours.melx

  19. You don't have to publish this comment - I had misplaced your email address and just wanted to say I think you're brave, quite clever, funny, creative and clearly a great mum. I'm sorry this has happened on your blog. Making choices that are right for you and your family are all you can do. Will miss your wit and intelligence (you are going to be an amazing lawyer). Lyn x
