I hosted the Sewing Square today.
I took no photos at the time. I'd like to say I was too busy sewing, but I wasn't. I was just chewing the fat.
The above photo is the Sewing Square aftermath.
Sonia from Raine and Sage came over because she's done a sewing course and I was hoping to sap her for tips. She's exactly like she is on her blog. But different. You don't see her on her blog. I saw her in real life. I knew she was Sonia because she was the only person in my house whom I'd never laid eyes on before.

Instead we spent most of the time talking about head lice and childhood injuries and ailments which turn our collective hair grey with worry.
There was a couple of kiddliwinks playing-about who kept Martha occupied.
I merely sewed this butterfly mobile which is ingeniously sewn together with fishing line which, to the uninitiated, looks invisible!

There's nothing like a cyclone to stuff up your go-to, no-fuss kids' diet standbys - bananas, banana cake, banana smoothies... Damn you Yasi!
ReplyDeleteYesterday's post was hilarious!
You showing off your Boleslawiec again?!!
ReplyDeleteI did eye that banana at one stage and almost took a nibble. I should have taken the banana and left my child. Good to get back to the sewing square. Next time I will sew. I will.
ReplyDeleteWow! You met THE Sonia. I've always pictured her to have really big ears. Does she?
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah. I'm kidding. I've seen a photo of her on one of her first posts and she's gorgeous.
Your Marimekko tablecloth is beautiful. Glad you had a nice time on this cold and miserable day. xx
I meant to compliment you on that butterfly mobile, I did eye it off. Is that Ikea stripey fabric?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Reader 3 re: next time. Although, my button mending effort pleased me no end.
That banana, really 9.75?! We pay .29! I'll send yo some!
ReplyDeleteWe payed 10.00 for a miniscule mango in Japan.
Lovely butterfly mobile, and what a great day to spend sewing or chewing the fat...good times.
I did eye those half eaten bananas with extreme concern when I saw them in the first photo. I am aware of the second mortgage status of bananas in Australia right now and I hope you did something wonderful with it. Loving those kaftan patterns. Did you get some hot tips regarding mou-mou construction?
ReplyDeleteBernice,
ReplyDeleteCyclone Yasi. Two words.
Jennie,
Yes, I am!
Reader 3,
Sew you will.
Brismod,
She was covered in white paint and wouldn't let go of her wood glue. She did laugh at some of my jokes so I decided she could stay.
Sonia,
even a simple button is a sewing adventure! Yes, it's Ikea stripy fabric. Good spotting, seamstress.
Rachel, I may have slightly over-exaggerated the price of one banana. But they're not cheap, let me tell you.
CK,
I have started on a caftan. I can't quite believe the weather isn't playing along (freezing and wet. I need humid and sultry).
Those were the days my friend
ReplyDelete... flowing caftans and flavoursome bananas.
Thanks for the memories.
I can't sew, but would like to know how. Does that qualify me for the Sewing Circle??? Have Miss Flea to amuse other small children ... actually, I just want to meet the funky kid in the hat ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe banana is very concerning. I suspect it is some sort of friendship test involving a hidden camera. Akin to diamond earrings being left in your possession while your conscience decides what to do about them. Call the owner of the banana now and arrange fedex return.
ReplyDeleteThe celebs you get to meet! That banana is gold.
ReplyDeletewow, cut up what's left of that banana and freeze it! You can't throw almost $10 in the compost! I put frozen banana slices in homemade smoothies, give it a try!
ReplyDeleteSeeing that wilting banana reminded me of the grazier-elite of my childhood.
ReplyDeleteWe now have a banana elite class making us all feel penniless in comparison.
All I can say is "This too will pass".
Oh sounds like fun! Love your butterflies. Super cute!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely sewing square. A little jealous, I think... Your butterfly mobile is a marvel!
ReplyDeletei dream of joining a stitch and bitch club. but also just to have a good excuse to bake nice cakes a prepare a swedish 'fika' and to talk about this and that.
ReplyDeletetoday i will do that one my own. the stitching and the bitching. with the cake and all.
So lovely, Sonia is a true sweetie! A reminder the blogging world is a special little network. Just think if I hadn't said to Sonia how much she would love blogging you gals may have never crossed paths ... strange now to think when it seems you were made to be mates. I love your mobile xx Katherine
ReplyDeletePs meant to ask how that cute little cowboy is ?
ReplyDeleteOBH,
ReplyDeletehe loves his outfit. But has stopped wearing it on protest that we buy him a cowboy hat and a gun. I'm anti-gun, so we've hit a stalemate.
Sonia also brought some custard slice/tart on her first visit which I was very impressed by. I think Sonia got along like a house-on-fire!
Actually, I don't want to deceive anyone. I just realised you may have thought I sewed the whole mobile at the Sewing Square. No, I didn', I sewed it ages ago, and just restrung it yesterday.
Yours in clarification,
Oh so true about the banana...
ReplyDeleteI am anti-weapon, I am even anti-weapon look-a-like. Much to the teen's samurai-sword-display-desire disappointment.
