Dear Blog,
Happy First Birthday! I can remember the day you started. I made a rash, unplanned decision to start writing you, and I did. And here you are! (Squeezing your chubby bloggy cheeks.)
The other day I said you were a waste of a year. I didn't really mean that. I think I meant that I waste too much time on you. Time which could be devoted to other pursuits - children, study, cleaning, personal hygiene etc.
And, after reading a lot of the comments about my statement, it dawned on me; you haven't been a waste.
Because of you I have met a truckload (yes, I think if I had a truck, the readers would fill it) of funny, caring, thoughtful, intelligent, creative women.
They're mostly women. I think there's the odd male reader and my brother's commented once, but they're mostly women.
Women who always take the time to say something nice and positive and funny.
Women who gladly jump on board a rhyming post with their own rhymes. On time. They're sublime. Gross, I stood in grime.
Inspiring women who are busy doing their own stuff and often writing own blogs.
Supportive women from around the world whom I've gotten to know and who invariably make me feel funny and clever and pretty-much able to tackle anything.
This year I've sewn things and made things and said things and done things and seen things that I would never have, without you.
And you, and the readers, stuck by me when I went all shy and private.
And then, I was going to chuck you in all together, but after three days I came to my senses, and no one seemed to mind.
So thanks, Blog. Thanks for a great year.

Only a year? It seems like much longer! I couldn't possibly imagine blog world without your fabulous posts, so happy birthday blog and tell your mother she's ok!

Wow. It is amazing to see how much your children have grown in the past year. It does put the year in some sort of perspective.
