Classic old things

Generally, I'm happy to let birthdays slide by with just a home-made card from my children.

Having their declarations of love, written on a piece of cardboard, is enough.

However, this year, I 'lost it' slightly.

The irony of life, requiring our having to euthanise Noodle on the one day of the year I'd least believe we'd need to, made me stompingly demand something "Rimini blue and expensive" as recompense.

And the good husband obliged.

Who needs the Sunday paper social pages when you have your own blog? I certainly don't.

This is the Sewing Square kicking up its heels. I've known these gorgeous women for at least 24-years. The one on the far-right is Martha's Godmother, so I have a special bond with her, and I'm hoping she'll set Martha on the straight-and-narrow as Martha gets older. And wilder.

The birthday girl was the one in all the fur. Her party was a themed one. We don't usually dress like this, though theme-or-not, I would've dressed the same.

Here's a full length version. I really can't believe I'm that in infatuated with myself that I'm posting these photos.

Do you like the Hardoy chairs? I do. I networked with them for most of the night. I didn't really make any new friends that evening, as you can see.

Apart from that, our weekend was pretty subdued.

Some 'Homeboy' arranged the toilet paper.

We cursed the bush turkeys who sense a new regime of increased freedom.

We painted our nails, because we've never done that and thought it'd be fun.

Watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Did you know the screenplay was written by Roald Dahl? I never realised that, but listening to the script you can 'hear' his writing style.

And then I cooked a whole lot of un-photogenic food, such as the anarchy that was this pile of cupcakes.

Moomin meat and macaroni bake ...

and banana bread. I think I needed to keep busy.

I'll leave you with one of Martha's Knock-Knock jokes.

Martha: Knock Knock.

Me: Who's there?

Martha: Martha.

Me: Martha Who?

Martha: Justin Bieber.

  1. Love it! Did you know that Ian Fleming (James Bond) wrote the book of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? It's such a great film. You look beautiful in your dress, and I'm glad you got spoilt a little for your birthday. Lyn x

  4. Next year I'm following suit and putting my foot down too. What a perfect pressie...it's nearly as nice as that little home-made pottery piece you've got it sitting next to.
You rocked that dress btw and yes I'd kill for those Hardoy's.

  6. You're my little Chu-Chi face. That movie goes for HOURS. There was a Rimini blue vase on the sideboard in today's episode of The Brady Bunch. Martha's come over all Dada. And - you're such a poser.

  8. Love that photo of you and your chair friends! And Martha's joke. Isn't it amazing when kids 'get funny'. They really get it. Where does that come from? And can that other kids come over and do my toilet paper like that too?

  11. Anna,
I don't think Martha thinks she's funny. I think she just doesn't get knock-knock jokes and is in two-year-old love with Justin Bieber!

I love the Hardoy chairs. Nobody can blame you for being mesmerised by them.
Dom's three year old favourite KK Joke was (blame Wiggles - and repeated a thousand times!!):
    Dom - Knock Knock
    Me - Who's there?
    Dom - Ya
    Me - Ya who?
    Dom - I didn't know you were a cowboy
Dom - Laughing hysterically like it was a new joke. Every. Single. Time.

PS - they say (and it's true) that industry is the best cure for melancholy. x

  17. I think about Noodle too, I'm glad this year is soon over. But then again, there are wonderful, sweet, funny girls like Martha with a mother who looks like 30 in a brave dress. Yes, there's hope.
