Lifestyle quiz, Vintage Kitchen Swap IQ test, Broken Item of the Week

Do you buy flowers or wait until they appear in the garden?

Do you iron everything at once? Or just one item at a time? Or not at all?

Do you use placemats? Or do you use tablecloths?

Do you buy your Christmas presents during the year and make a poor attempt at hiding them? Or do you buy them on the 24th December?

Do you re-arrange the furniture hoping it'll all look better? Or do you leave everything as it is because it'll never look any better.

Do you finger-paint with your friends?

Do you wear aprons? I do. Lucky, I do too because the above apron came from my best friend, the magnanimous and generous, Zigsma, as part of Stella's Vintage Kitchen Swap.

I'm now going to show you a number of photos I snapped in my kitchen this morning, and you can try to guess which photos are of the things Zigsma swapped in my direction.

Frozen chicken breasts.

A delightful and sought-after Hornsea canister and a tally-ho, brilliant English chopping board ala Lucky Jim.

Autumnal tones meshed together in what can otherwise be described as a vintage card, a cafe curtain and an English stacker mug.

Paprika and brown rice.

Banana. And a fabulous, vintage trivet so one doesn't scald the kitchen surfaces.

Uh oh. Homage to Deb. Broken item of the week. Lucky there were two of these.

  1. Oh NOSE! I can't believe the chicken breasts didn't defrost. I knew I had badly-packaged that package. Yours, BFF. xxx

  2. I am so impressed that the banana didn't bruise. Do they have them in Zigsma world? I NEVER iron unless working in a law office.

  3. PS. Rather than tablecloths, I have been using lawn quite a bit of late and it seems sub tropical summer is affecting Fin. K.. No black! Christmas presents- are bought then given as emergency birthday gifts for kids I don't know and I give up on the furniture. Too many poltergeists in this house.

  4. Only because I know you're really interested:
    1. My budget does not stretch to buying flowers.
    2. I iron only as required, and subsequently have an ironing basket 1 metre tall which may well include clothing not worn in the previous 18 months.
    3. Maybe my budget would stretch to buying flowers if I didn't have to keep buying clothes.
    4. We do placemats.
    5. I Xmas shop the week before Xmas ... I like the atmosphere!
    6. I do not re-arrange furniture ... other than to retrieve lost lego.
And finally, I think Martha really has mastered the smile for the camera, hasn't she?

  5. Love Martha's smile and Finnish K is not wearing black!!! I've blocked out all homemaking activities from my brain. You're a lawyer, don't you know I have a patent on the Broken Item of the Week???!!!
    xo

p.s. I'm sorry about your broken mug.(not your face.)

  6. That' s the first thing I thought too, Finnish K is not wearing black!!
I should make a 'broken item of the day' series of post, because that's how it goes lately at the cottage. And the furry kids aren't guilty.

  7. Not sure I've got this swap right, but please wrap Martha up in the apron and post her to me and I'll send you the Arabia teapot. Ok?

  8. -I buy them. So few grow in my garden it seems a sin to cut them out.
-I like to do my ironing all at once. And, I actually like ironing.
-On a regular day I use neither place mats nor table cloths. If I'm stepping it up a notch, then placemats.
-I buy Christmas presents all through the year, but I'm a good stasher. Hubby never finds his loot! Also. I start wrapping them by November!
-I used to love to rearrange furniture. Now I have a tiny apartment with very little furniture, so I'm usually just rearranging stuff! I'm trying to find the best storage solutions and end up never being able to find things because I keep finding new places for them.
-Unfortunately I do not finger paint with friends, although, I feel maybe I should. I do card making with friends, does that count?
-I rarely wear aprons. I have a really cute 'fancy' apron, but i don't want to ruin it so I never wear it to cook in. Mum has a blue 'Milk' apron I remember wearing a lot when I was a kid.

Sorry about your broken item of the week. I hope this is the first and only in your Broken Item homage. It's more fun when it's my dad's fault ;)

  9. I like your batik table cloth. I rarely iron, occasionally tablecloth, never placemat, sometimes re-arrange, like your canister, and think Zigsma is an excellent vintage gifter.
I agree with Annie, and think the grass is a wonderful table.

  10. I've had it up to here with the ironing and with piles of clothes in general. I prefer to blog than fold, and if I had a magic genie I'd make her do all my folding, AND put it away AND I'd have her take out all the clothes they have grown out of and box them or give them to charity. I'd love to move the furniture but It's all too much. I think I need a sleep. Love Martha!
