All over.

Christmas is all over here. We're moving on.

My mother keeps sending me old photos ... I remember being a bit miffed at my brown-haired kindy friend, Kelly, as she didn't breakdown in tears in a 'I-hate-Santa-photos' demonstration of pathos.

Thank goodness it's over. It can be a bit emotionally and physically exhausting.

We ripped down all traces of Christmas decorations on Boxing Day, in an effort to lower the vocal decibels and bring some normality back into the house.

This is my favourite present. It was from Grandma and Grandad to Martha. It's a nightlight.

I'm hoping it'll be one of those design classics that she'll keep until she's a mother herself.

Santa gave Martha some Dick Bruna images from an old counting book. I put them in some Ikea frames. I have twelve pages in total. I'll keep them rest for her next birthday and Christmas ... otherwise it'd be overkill.

And I can't have her learning to count too soon ... she'd end up showing us all up in public.

Fin.

  1. Very cute girlies with Santa. Are you the dark haired Child? I like your new profile pic. Dear little Martha is going to have that design love for MCM just like her mum!
We have to wait for New Year's before we take down the tree. I was ready yesterday.

  2. I forgot to say how happy you two are. I was terrified of Santa, therefore there are no incriminating photos of me with him.

  5. I think I should take a leaf (or should that be pine-needle) out of your book and dispense with the decorations. Especially if it lowers the volume in one's house.

I love the elephant night light - its sensational!

  6. Deb, this is my only Santa photo. I am the happy child in the Ernie & Bert shirt, matching Ernie & Bert undies and knee-high socks.

    Zootsuitmama,
hello. It's a big build-up and a screaming mess afterwards.

    melissa,
Miffy pictures would look good over one of your quilts.

    Liesl,
hello. Glad you're back. We didn't plan on taking the decorations down, but I think the tree was starting to move from room-to-room and everyone was still hyped-up after 24-hours, and apart from that the dog seemed to be weeing on everything, so something had to give.

  7. love the lamp and the framed Miffy pics. Have loads of Miffy book but mostly scribbled on - by me as a child I have to say, practicing writing my name I think. Or was it branding them so my sisters couldnt claim them. Hmmm? Either way not up for framing. But great idea. And where was the elephant lamp sourced from? Lark had lovely rabbit ones too I think. Or was that on your blog. Oh I have no idea. All Christmased out here too. Just trying to muster up the energy to rip it all down and get house back to "normal" whatever that is. Although with no TV since the big hailstorm a week or so ago at least the cmas lights give us something to look at at night : )

PS Keep the old photos coming. Love them. So much like our own family album. Im a 1971 baby too

  8. Poor old Santa. You can read the "Hurry up and take the photo before this kid goes into total meltdown" look in his eyes.

Martha got some cool things. Love that elephant lamp. I've seen the cow amp on another blog...it looked a bit clansmen-like though for a bovine.

    Miffy rocks!

  9. Michele,
you silly 1971 woman. I have heaps more old photos my mother has emailed me. I only need one person to say they like them! Maybe Mum will read this post and tell me where she got the lamp from ... stay tuned.

    1950s,
it is a bit of a relief, isn't it.

    Brismod,
I just looked at the cow lamp on the box! How right you are ... that'd keep a kid awake all night! I'm keen to see what Santa brought you!

  11. I have about 4 Dick Bruna wall friezes that I bought in my 1st or 2nd year of teaching. Those things have been lugged around the country for nearly 20 years with a tag of "one day I'll do something with them". They're very beaten about but are far too cute to throw out. Looks like I need to make an Ikea visit.
