It makes for interesting reading. Remember, this story is dated September 1971. I've re-typed most of it for you.
A Sophisticated Setting
"Lucky new baby girl, MMMC, came home from the hospital recently with her mother, MMMCSnr, to a nursery fit for a princess.
"At their home, the MMMC's, had created, while waiting for MMMC's arrival, a room which ignored the usual safe baby colour scheme of pink, blue or lemon, in favour of sophisticated orange mustard and white.
"Walls are papered in orange mustard and white paisley pattern and the large, shaggy carpet square is in blended orange tones.
"Curtains in orange and white hail spots are lopped on to curtain poles with orange flowered braid.
"MMMC's crib is lined with burnt orange and white printed cotton and the cot sheets and pillow cases are burnt orange, with a hand printed border of olive.
"The baby-sized wardrobe is painted in burnt orange. White and linen tea towels printed with ducks, dogs and cats, in the same shades have been made into interesting wall scrolls.
"The divan is covered in plain burnt orange linen, and mobiles and toys repeat the basic colours, spiced with white.
"I'm sure if baby MMMC could speak, she'd be delighted to know that she's bucked the conventional colour schemes that have plagued babies for years.
"September is always a bumper month for babies on the Coast, so let's hope they don't get drowned in a froth of pink and blue.
"Some babies' sophisticated personalities emerge when they've barely left the hospital feed room. No wonder they get colic when they get home.
"They are screaming for an appropriate setting."

You were a style leader even as a new-born! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI'm screaming! Your mum was a nursery design guru. I see now why you love Mid Century style, instead of being born with a silver spoon, you were born with design flair. Does your mum still have any of these artifacts, er I mean nursery items from your babyhood?
ReplyDeleteMMMC you look positively joyous in your trendy nursery. Even your softie looks groovy, like it popped out of a Dr Seuss book. MMMC senior certainly had it going on in the style dept.
ReplyDeleteMMMCSnr the Original Yummy Mummy ! oh you lucky little girl.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to say how cute you were! And still are!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you didn't make that last bit up? Ha! I'd like to meet your mum!

ReplyDeleteSweet!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Obviously you were born to be stylish from the very start.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this, so cool. I was born in 1975 & inherited my 1972 sister's decor of mustard & purple, quite daring, non?? I remember the purple lead painted cot with matching robe & change table well, i chewed all the paint off as a toddler. I also remember my father chopping it all up & burning it in the backgarden, as you did, when i grew out of it all & upgraded to redwood, nice!! Love Posie
ReplyDeleteDear MMMC,
ReplyDeleteI'm born 1966...old enough to remember...that design.
So you'll have a round birthday in 2011! It's nice, very nice.
Ariane.
This is gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTruly.
Pure gold.
I love it! That's such a sweet picture of you in your little crib. What's your little pink friend? A dinosaur? I think it's too cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone. I think it's a funny article. Can't say I've put as much effort into my children's rooms.
ReplyDeleteThat little toy was a stuffed terry-towelling giraffe. It was cute.
