Merry Christmas, Three Readers.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

This is a photo of my first Christmas.

Looks like Santa gave me a cardboard box. Either that, or it was my pram.

As the years passed, Christmas became more bountiful. Dad started handing out inflatable Santas.

Stand in line for a Santa! I wonder why the majority of children have hands on hips?

Low-riding 'Scoops' were obviously 'hip'.

Anyway, enough of my happy memories.

Thank you all, for reading. Your comments make it worthwhile keeping up the blog. I wouldn't do this otherwise.

I hope you all have a lovely, peaceful Christmas day with your own families, or horses, or cats or dogs.

I think I need a break. MMMC. xx.

  1. You are very cool. And funny. And I like your mid-century stuff. I've got lots in my house too and was glad to keep almost all of it when husband walked out 18 months ago (bonus - I also got to keep the kid!). Seriously, you have a terrific blog and since I've started following just recently, I always manage to laugh when I pop along for a read. Have a terrific Christmas with your rather awesome looking family.

  8. Yep, it's time for a break. But it's wierd, isn't it. As much as I think I need a blog break too, it's hard to say I'm definitely going to... like it matters though! There's plenty still to do before Saturday! Thank you for a wonderful read this year. Stacks of laughs, chuckles with my husband when I get him to come and read what you've written, and so many conversation starters because of what you've written. Enjoy the holiday, lovely friend. We'll catch up in the new year. Definitely. Well done.

  21. Enjoy your Christmas break.
I must say it seems weird to see Santa and kids wearing shorts in the same picture.

I don't think I could do Christmas someplace warm...you'll have to invite me over for Easter instead!

  23. I really enjoy reading your posts, you always put a funny slant on the story, very clever with words :)
Have a great time with your family over Christmas. It'll be a quiet for me, a bit of time with the family, then probably mostly the dog. I liked that you mentioned pets above as I suppose not everyone has family or gets to spend Christmas with them x

  24. My recent post was in homage to you re the snow here in the UK and aeroplanes being grounded. I forwarded your post on Oprah to my darlings in Sydney and they loved it. Please don't take too long a break or we shall all be in rehab. With no little ones here for Christmas, it's all booze and excess food. Hurrah! Oh, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

  27. The baby in the box... guess it fell off a speeding ute (that happens a lot in Australia). Maybe you too came from Scandinavia; it's a plausible explanation. Lovely seeing that santa, my grandparents had one, but I had forgotten about it...
We wish you, our favourite family, an absolutely wonderful Christmas! See you later! Kisses and hugs

Thank you also for your wonderful blog, it is a well written, highly entertaining part to my day (not that I am a literary genious). Sorry but I am still chuckling about your brother's encounter with a christmas hat.
Once again have a great break, you deserve it!

  30. Your blog pictures make me remember my boys when they ran around shirtless and tan in the Summer. I also was reminded about my penpal from Perth Australia when I was in the 6th grade. Fun! PS It's gonna be a white Christmas here in Missouri! Zootsuitmama

  33. Christmas in bathing suits and green grass is quite hard to understand from here. It's so cold your breath freezes and dogs won't go out. Santa has to wear his warmest coat. And I fantasize about moving to somewhere warm. Merry Christmas.

  36. Your memories are just standard 1970's Christmas in Australia, it wasn't showy or posey. You can go all out for your children though, all the Christmas dreams you wanted, or keep it simple. We're with simple!! Merry Christmas!! Love Posie

  39. Merry Christmas!

I remember those inflatable santas! Dad used to buy out old store stock to sell at Swapmeets (at the Drive-In theater on weekend days), and he got those santa and some reindeer. We played with them, of course!

  41. I can still hear being told "get your hands off your hips" ... it was regarded as looking like a washer woman, it was not the done thing!
Pushing kids round in a cardboard box was super fun ... cardboard boxes were rare! Have I gone too far back? Looks like a fabulous day no matter the era. Hugs, xo.
