From the Danish Lights website I came across this photo ...
Hilarious? Yes, it is.
But, if you look, not too closely, you can see Dad and Mum are playing with miniature Arne Jacobsen chairs.
How I dream to furnish a dolls house with Mid-Century mini-replicas. But, this being the year of MMMC frugality, I must say, "Nay" to that dream.
But as it happens, I discovered the Swedish toy company Brio Scanditoy Mobilia made these dolls houses in the 70s and had iconic miniature mid-century furniture to match.
And I discovered, you can still buy the dolls' houses ...
and the little Arne Jacobsen chairs from the Swedish equivalent of ebay ... Tradera.
These two were for sale last week ... it was a bit confusing for me to find them ... goodness only knows how one would actually make a purchase ...
You may also know, that you can buy Vitra miniatures, I think from Space Furniture and also online here ... lovely.

Very cool. There is a shop in Bulimba called House and Doll and one of the lovely gals that works there, Tracey is a mid century nut and her lovely partner and her have the business Atomic Cafe which has amazing prints and ads etc from the era...anyway they may have some of this gear there because they have everything doll house...will check it out, hooroo, Katherine
ReplyDeleteMMMC you need to source out a dollhouse for yourself pronto! It is very calming because you are in complete control, you put everything where you want and nobody gives you any flak!
ReplyDeleteOBH,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check it out too! Ooh! A trip into the real world!
Deb,
you know, we have four wooden dolls' houses already! That's FOUR. Possibly three too many. I keep walking passed them thinking, I should tidy up that little room ... and I'm always thinking of wallpapering the walls ... and then I realise I have a real house which I need to tidy up.
I'll photograph them one day when I've arranged them nicely.
I want you to buy one of those doll houses and I will live in it. Okay? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh, finally I can comment, after hours of torture by drawing.
ReplyDeleteI had a house almoust like that, called 'Lundeby'. It had four floors, a swimming pool and a fireplace. You can have it if you want it; just pick it up at my mother's house.
Cool doll houses! I wouldn't mind living in one either... with those nifty chairs. I would take all of them of course- the red one is calling to me.... Can't wait to see your dollhouses. :)
ReplyDeleteI have my Lundby in my mom's basement! it had fancy fuzzy wallpaper and Libercace style furniture with a mid century kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThe master bedroom was GROOOOVY as i recall.
Love that thing.
Do you know QXL.no and QXL.dk???? oh I spend some time browsing looking at various MCM items.
ReplyDeleteOh those little chairs are adorable :)
now that is a dolls house, and dolly furniture I could live with.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool! Who knew?
ReplyDeleteIf you want slightly larger than 3/4 inch scale chairs (which is what Brio and Lundby are) REAC does a great and reasonably priced range of Designer Classic chairs: http://www.reacjapan.com/shop/product/dic.html (you can pick them up on eBay quite easily...)
