What is style?

A couple of very nice blogging ladies nominated me for one of those Stylish Blogger Awards ... that Award seems all the rage at the moment.

Thank you Heidi of Bord & Butik and Kerry of A Tranquil Townhouse ... I am very honoured, because style isn't something I tend to associate with.

Those two ladies, on the other hand, are both classy and ooze style.

The object of the Award is to list seven things about one ... I've tried to come up with some interesting things about my 'style', but I'm really scraping at the bottom of the slops bucket.

Interior Style - My interior style is fairly eclectic and unfocused.

There's no point being too precious about the interior of my home as I am competing with numerous other 'designers'.

I do spend a lot of my time not making beds and not cleaning toilets, but concentrating on the importance of rearranging the tops of credenzas so they'll look 'just right' in case Vogue Living happens to pop by. Again.

Clothing Style - I like striped shirts and jeans. It's pretty much my style. I like to remind myself that Marimekko built part of its international textile empire on the back of striped t-shirts.

Financial Style - Let's just say that 2011 The Year of Frugality and my self-proclaimed "Declaration to Limit all International Internet Purchases and All Other Unnecessary Domestic Purchases Generally" has not gotten off to the penny-pinching start I'd anticipated.

Career Style - My worst career choice was to become a member of the Constabulary. I was possibly the most hopeless constable you could imagine, however I still like to employ some of my tactical training in my daily life. Barking: 'GO! GO! GO! GO! GO!' to the children as we cross Pedestrian Crossings helps us move through the suburbs like a well-oiled Swat Team.

Dancing Style - I haven't hit the dancefloor for years. I'm afraid that if the time comes for me to bust-a-move, I'll revert to some early-90s routine that'll send other dancers running in an effort to preserve their dignity.

Social Style - Social events such as parties or school functions fill me with dread ... 'small talk' and I are not happy bedfellows.

Food Style - For me, epicurean luxury consists of a croissant with jam and a decent coffee in the morning. That's all I need to feel like I'm stylish.

That was a lot of hard work. I think I'll spare anyone else the same fate.

Fin.

  2. MMMC you are a style leader. I was reading Door Sixteen blog last week and she wrote about her love for Moomins. I thought to myself, how passé. MMMC has already done this. See? Style Leader.

  3. Megan,
    stripes are timeless!

    Brismod,
you're too kind. Looks like Door 16 has been reading Moomin novels since she be a wee bitty ... as opposed to a late 30s-something who's just read the comics!

  6. Well having come across from both Ann's and Kerry's blogs, I am so glad I did. I am still laughing at your style. Your writing style that is! Nice to 'meet' you! Amanda xx

  7. I hate the word 'style' it makes me cringe, which is unfortunate because it's in the name of my blog. My favorite hobby is thinking up alternate blog titles, seeing if they're available on blogger and pinching them, I am currently the author of 11 blogs, all with better names than curbside style :(

one thing I've noticed though and has given me pause for thought, are the number of comments you get on all of your posts. Lot's of people must like what you say and be listening because you usually only see comments like that on blogs with 500+ readers.

    just sayin'

  8. Kerry,
    you must be drunk.

    Ann,
    you're drunk too.

    Amanda,
you're new! Hello. About time I got a new friend! As I say to all my new friends, 'You'll be sorry'.

    Estelle,
how about 'Curbside Stealing' ... 'Curbside - looks a bit Curbside', 'Curbside other people's rubbish' ... 'Curbside Porkbelly Dark Chocolate' (I'm half-watching a cooking show).

  9. Curbside: As opposed to Roadside where you could get hit by a car.

  10. Estelle,
See how I bump-up the 'comment' numbers by commenting on my own blog?

  19. The other designer in your home is pretty awsome. Look how those stickers are placed!!
Stripes + blue jeans, is my uniform most of the time, and you know what I do for a living. So that means one thing darling: you've got style!! (or I don't have any but I believe I do).

  21. Ah, what a lovely, funny post -- tres drole, or should I say droll?

  22. Me too on the party/school functions. They give me a major stomach ache. I much prefer staying home and rearranging things on my credenza. You're so lucky to have so many arteests in the house. Who needs to buy art? Just give Martha some Crayolas. Love the stickies on the bed too. Stylish mom = stylish offspring...and stylish you are!

  23. God you are funny!! Love this post and the fabulous comments that have followed.
I have the same financial style, though not by choice (hope that changes), the same dress style (am sitting here in a stripey tshirt and jeans), the same social style (let me hide somewhere) and most probably the same dance style. What a chuckle :)

  24. I've finally made it over to say Hello. For whatever reason (most probably my tecnical ineptness) I haven't been able to view your blog until now. Very pleased, particularly seeing what amazing style you possess! Will look forward to regularly catching up. Vividly relate to the "Go, go, go, go, go" trying to get the crew across a busy road! Thanks for the laugh!

  25. Not drunk. Only impressed to speechlessness by a truly stylish woman. You have the answers to everything. And I'll wear my striped t-shirt with my jeans and a proud feeling today. Knowing that I'm not the only one who hates small talk. Thank you, dear MMMC, you are my role model.
    :)

  26. And I made an official tribute to you today. Actually still in my pyjama outfit. Soon in that t-shirt.

  28. I think we would make good friends. I too spend a lot of time not making beds and not cleaning toilets. We might suffer because neither of us are friends with small talk, but maybe we'd be too busy having fun rearranging to notice?
Do you have those ready to bake Pillsbury croissants over there? They are to die for! You can just taste the butter and calories.
