Grandad's gone home.
He took us to dinner, as he likes to, occasionally. We don't go anywhere posh. We've got nothin' to prove.
Anyway, we've discovered at this 'restaurant' there's always someone more badly behaved ...
... so we end up looking like royalty!
On this occasion, unfortunately, we were the worst behaved!
Here are the goils!
Fatso in the middle left with the hiccups!
On leaving, we hid hamburgers in our handbags and secreted a half-drunk bottle of plonk under a towel. We're all class!
Apart from dinner, some of us today trendied-it-up in New Farm!
That kid's almost foive!
These are some native-type flora ... I'm always trying to think what may interest the foreign readers.
This poodle person was waiting in her/his owner's car ... quite patiently. I can't get enough of poodles.
They amuse me no end.
This is a delectable shop ... we bought some fabric. Right now, I'm sewing like I am some kind-of seamstress.
For the foreigners, this is quite an up-market boutique. I have never been in ... and vow only to enter when I can walk out with a bag full of dresses ... I once bought a shirt from one-half of them ... but that was in the 80s before one-half of them made it 'big'.
One of my main purposes in New Farm was to visit Great Dane ... I discovered, with mixed emotions, it had closed and has been replaced with an eerily similar Scandinavian furniture store but with cheaper furniture. For instance, this Hardoy chair (not the foot stool) costs about $700- including the Argentinian leather sling. I think that's not-too-bad.
Here's Child 3 being warned not to touch anything!
The lady in the store was very accommodating and even sent me some photos.
It really has very well-priced furniture.
I was digging that striped rug from the footpath.
This is the nose of a French bulldog who barks at us every time we walk passed his/her house.
Martha sitting on the footpath.
This is just some local architecture for the foreign readers ... there's much more interesting in New Farm ...
but this was opposite from our parking spot.
And then, at Petrie Terrace, I saw this man on a dirt bike wearing a suitish-attire.
Strange.
Gosh, it looks like you had a fun day. I went to Great Dane earlier this year and it had just shut. I was so sad because it was just a vacant showroom and the effort to go there and find a park crushed me! Very interesting to hear something is in that space now. Your little Martha in her red converse shoes is adorable! xx
ReplyDeletewhat a thoroughly enviable day out. To think I could have been doing something like that, instead of preparing for a rather large birthday party. Why is it do you think, that the day before a birthday party always feels a bit like preparing for a zombie apocalypse?
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I have wine.
Thanks for the eye candy.
Looks like you've had one heck of a big day! I never venture out to "posh shops" with kids in tow just in case they embarrass me to the nines and I'm refused entry thereafter. btw ... did you mug the staff at Sizzler when they brought out the potato bake or potato skins? I used to work at Sizzler & I sure was popular when I brought those goodies out ;-)
ReplyDeleteI really want to go into that Easton Pearson store. I'm sure I couldn't even fit my right leg into anything, but I drool over their outfits online. Impressed you got hamburgers out of Sizzlers. We've only done the smarties in ice cream cones stelthy thing. And gee, Martha is growing up. Impressed by the baby connies.
ReplyDeleteWow, this post really makes this yankee want to get to Australia...what a fun day! Fun family! First on my list would be the furniture store...THEN the restaurant. Bye, Grandad.
ReplyDeleteI thought maybe that was Grandad on the motorcycle. I love Martha's red sneaks. She's so trendy and with it. Must take after her mother. The shops look lovely, we have nothing so nice here in the boonies.
ReplyDeleteI love that house!
Love all the details, and that you take such care about us; 'the foreign readers'. Look how child 3 marvels at everything in the boutique, Martha really looks like royalty in her dress (how can you call her fatso). I wouldn't mind the oldest goil's sweater, or your shoes (almoust wrote 'choose' instead of 'shoes'. And goils is Austrailan for girls, I see; I will do excellent down under!
ReplyDeletefun photos, love the photos of your youngest eating ice cream, so cute!
ReplyDeleteNew Farm looks pretty cool. As for Easton Pearson I always die a little when I see their price tags.
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love the trick for the eating out. My son really frowns on other tantrum throwing children which i find very ironic given it is more ofthen than not him.
xoxo
New Farm is looking very groovy these days. I'll have to squeeze in a visit when I'm down there at Christmas time. I used to work there back in my uni days (17 years ago) and one of the most interesting aspects was the prostitutes lurking around the laundromat. I guess things change.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that shop. We were there a few weeks ago and it was closed but went back on Thursday for a look. I am going to post about it next week (I'm lazy and you beat me to it, ha!). The blond leather butterfly chair was my favourite I couldn't stop thinking about since we first saw it. And you're right they have very reasonable prices. Did you meet sweet french Julie while you were there? She told me that Colette Dinnigan was in there five minute before us and she loved the store too, so you know we are in good company. I've heard Great Dane are relocating, I have no idea where to though.
ReplyDeletepoodles - my friend has a black standard who i swear winks at me...they are people covered in curls!
ReplyDeleteBrismod,
ReplyDeleteI think you'd like this store. I has a lot of fabulous stuff ... parking is a nightmare isn't it?
I should probably say it's called The Modern Furniture Store ... but its website isn't up yet.
Estelle,
I hope the First Birthday party was a cracker!
MissA-G,
I was quite surprised at how pleasant the staff were! They didn't seem to care that there was food all over the floor and kids running back-and-forth. I guess they're used to it.
AB,
I'd love to go in too ... but I think it's definitely a sans-children experience. You'd fit into their clothes!
Rachel, thank you! When you come to Brisbane, I'll take you to New Farm.
Deb, actually that house does remind me of your taste. They had a Christmas wreath on the door already ... that's what prompted me to take the photo. It's right in the action ... metres from a pub, gorgeous stores and cafes!
Lilli, you are catching onto the lingo! But you'd have to start calling toddlers 'fatso'.
EF@MV,
thank you. She was in her element!
Jane, you'd enjoy New Farm - very posh and trendy. I love children who look disparagingly at others - I have a son who does it too! He's always reporting back about 'bad etiquette' situations at children's parties.
Bernice, I know that corner! New Farm has been cleaned-up considerably. There were a couple of prostitute murders probably around that time, from memory.
Julie, sorry. I hope you do your post anyway, and do a better job. I also loved the hide rugs. French Julie wasn't there ... Australian Jackie.
Milady,
that's the most precise description of poodles. I used to look into Noodle's eyes, and he'd look back at me like a little man in a poodle suit.
I have a poodle named George and I agree they are so special I'm trying to talk my hubby into a standard size we have a toy poodle right now. Your kids are adorable!
ReplyDeleteYour babies are so cute. I love that house...I wish my cottage could look like that. And that shop is wonderful, I love wooden furnniture.
ReplyDeletewhen I was born my mother had a poodle named Eros. They're fun. I'm in love with the giant size!! I guess what would happen with my cats if I'd bring a giant Poodle in the family. A war?
I probably wouldn't make it out of a shop like the former Great Dane store alive. My heart would likely just come to a screeching halt and I'd fall over dead.
ReplyDeleteGive those children a pat on their backs for behaving so well. Even Miss Martha was using utensils...can't ask for too much more. Did she take a header? looks like a couple scuffs on her baby face. Perhaps it's food.
Answer to what foreigners like to see on your blog; everything! I don't always comment, but I always read your posts and always enjoy.
And I love it that Horsey is smiling at me while I write this comment. It makes me just want to keep writing, but I'll stop now.
Lived in New Farm for many many years (in a past life BC) you have made me long to head back at least for a little while. Lived not far from these pics close to James Street (and yes close the the prostitutes at the laundromat). Great place to live lots and lots of good memories
ReplyDeleteHeidi,
ReplyDeleteGeorge is a great name for a poodle.
Bobbi, a standard poodle amongst your feline family would be pure mayhem ... a brouhaha, if you will.
MCM, mid-forehead is a birth-mark which refuses to leave ... left cheek is eczema which also refuses to leave despite cream etc.
Michele, you wouldn't recognise NFarm now!
