This Christmas prep's a tough gig

I've been busy preparing for Christmas ... as you, no doubt, have.

I've finished all the shorts/bloomers/pyjama pants ... I was hoping some would be for Christmas but they were spied by various people, at the last minute, hanging on the line, so now they're being worn ...

I've been flogging old baby-stuff on ebay ... Don't some people want everything for nothing? And then everyone else is just delightful to deal with?

These are some of the parcels ready to go ... sometimes I think it's really not worth the $5 one makes. The post office is getting packed!

Drum rolllll ... we've been making Little Drummer Boy hats ... well, one. We out-did ourselves ...

And packaging presents for overseas and about the place ... I'm getting nervous because these should be posted already, but they're not. I often buy things from overseas, so they get sent to me in Brisbane, so I can re-send them back overseas ... The wait on one-or-two items is considerably upping the angst level ...

I sewed a crazy bag for my sister ... the button for which is coming from America (See? You can buy buttons in Brisbane).

I've made two bags in my life ... one ridiculous, badly-sewn bag for my mother last year, and this one, which is slightly more ridiculous, and a touch more badly-sewn. For some reason I 'scalloped' the sides ... the pattern didn't indicate 'scalloped sides' but I went ahead and 'scalloped'. Fool.

And remember that book swap venture in which we partook? Well, the books arrived from Switzerland ... two in English and one in a heavily Germanic language called German.

Guten reading!

And now, I'm creating a cloned-army of Tomtes using this book.

Which I'm loving.

You may in fact be a recipient of one said Tomte ... but only if the 35 pairs of small black-eye buttons I've ordered from America arrive in time.

People are medicated for behavior more normal than mine, I'm sure.

I also did something else which deserves a post of its own, I think.

Auf weidersehen.

  6. Deb,
the parcels are exciting. I should send one to myself!

    Kerry,
    yes ... you are nuts!

    Zigsma,
I think it's blogging's fault ... all these other blogs are organised, so it makes me nervous and then exhausted!

    Heidi,
    everything's pretty shoddily put together.

    Bayside Rose,
I don't know why I bought 70 buttons! I think I thought I needed an even number for eyes ... and they only come in bags of 35 ... I should have just thrown one button away from one bag of 35 ... and the fabric is nice - Amy Butler - sewing's wanting.

  7. I have good intentions of making stuff for my kids for presents but they get wind of it and end up with it anyway! I think your sisters bag is lovely, you cant go wrong with yummy AB fabric. Did you make your green dowelly christmas tree yet?? and is that book any good?

  8. My goodness, you're on top of things aren't you. I reckon I'm about 85% done with Xmas shopping, 0% wrapping and posting, decorations, 0% cooked presents but, wait for it...100% clean insect screens! Oh yes, I can see through them now. That was this morning's job. We're going away for most of the school holidays and having people house sit. I was a bit embarrassed about the state of the windows. I'm just not the cleaning type.

  9. the last time I was that industrious an illicit meth lab had set up down the street and the fumes were getting to me.

I love that bag, was it easy to make?

  11. I applaud you for the Christmas prep. I've done nothing. I've thought about prepping for weeks but have still done nothing!!! I like the idea of this clone army you are making too. xx

  12. I'm feeling a bit scrooge-like because I haven't done a thing in preparation for the coming holidays. You're wearing me out girl! My husband and I have accidentally made a tradition of doing our shopping on Christmas eve.

  13. Looks like you got a lot on your plate. Good luck. I once received a tomte as a thank-you gift. Looking forward to seeing your handmade ones, if the eyes arrive...Have a great week!

  14. Melissa,
I love the book ... but it'd be pretty simple for you!

Bernice, there't nothing like clean sceens ... that's a lot of harfd work. If I had screens I'd probably start cleaning them.

    Estelle,
bag was easy. I forgot the link ... http://tinyhappy.typepad.com/tiny_happy/2006/06/shoulder_bag_tu.html. Just DON'T SCALLOP!

Milady, see we don't have Thanksgiving ... so it's all Christmas over here already. My children breakup from school next week which means I'll get nothing done.

Brismod, you're renovating a house ... I think that's a good excuse ... I should send some tomtes over to assist.

MCM, I wish I could leave it all to Christmas Eve ... how nice. One day maybe ...

Joni, It's all reliant on the eyes!

  15. Ah yes. Judging from the previous posts and my own inclination towards pre-Christmas insanity, I don't think you are alone. I am extremely impressed with your overseas packages. I only have two Christmas presents to post overseas and have been completely useless at doing anything about it. Mainly because they are gifts for 18 year old and 6 year old brothers and I don't really know what to get either end of the age scale. Any ideas oh prepared one?

  16. Good grief! That's exactly what I WISH I'd been doing, but I've been doing NONE of that. Stress is starting to simmer a little. Lofty goals and ideals and all that. You may have to be my inspiration. And I may have to place an order for a gigantic pair of pyjama pants because they're on my list too.
