Fittingly, this will be a busy blog.
It's gonna cover a few things. Right, so concentrate and stay with me.
First ... Happy Birthday Noodle. You're 14!!
We love you. But we wish you'd stop vomiting on the floor.
Second, look what the sincerely lovely Catherine from pencils and pins sent me ...
The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery ... she received a copy from her teacher when she was in Grade Five and it had a deep impact on her.
When I read her post on that, I suggested I thought every child should have at least one non-parental influence in their lives who, through a simple gesture or act, sends that child off on a positive trajectory which influences their growth into adulthood. I think Catherine agreed ...
And I've never read The Little Prince ... so she sent one of her copies to me. I'm reading it after my exams and then I'm giving it to Child 1 to read. My mother had it when we were little, but I just looked at the pictures.
And notice the accompanying fabric? What a beautiful touch! Thank you Catherine. Your parcel really made my day, because I was at the library all day surrounded by students who were young enough to be my children! And they weren't reading Dr Seuss!!
These are just photos of roses my Mother-In-Law gave me ... She grows them herself ... I just thought I needed to break up the text with some images ...
Third ... here's Deb's Crispy Apple recipe. She said I could post it. Thank ye, Deb.
Apple Crisp
6 apples sliced
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
1/3 cup butter
Sprinkle first-lot of brown sugar over apples in a greased baking dish. Mix flour, nutmeg, salt and brown sugar. Stir in rolled oats. Cut in butter (use a knife and cut cold butter into centimetre-sized bits) until everything is combined. Sprinkle over the sliced apples. Bake in mod. oven (180 degrees Celsius (350F)) for about 50 minutes until topping is lightly browned and apples are tender. Serve with whipped cream or ice-cream. Serves 4-5, or one mother who has fussy children.
But crappy's relative ... Something modern, with a Mid-Century slant, and cheap. How's that? You'll like it.
Anyway, leave a comment, say anything and I'll put you in the drawer (yes, 'drawer'. I wrote that because I think it's funny ... because you're too big to be put in a drawer!) and I'll get one of the littlies to draw a name next Wednesday the 4th November.
Proviso is, though, that if you're not a 'Follower', you'll need to 'follow' so then I know you're not just a 'ring-in' who's after something cheap for free. Quid pro quo.
Don't click the Feedburner thing. I don't know what that does exactly and I don't know who or what it's recording, just 'follow' the traditional Google Blog way - the one that says there's only 87 of you!
I remember when it used to be Three Readers.
See? I'm busy. Studying for exams, applying for jobs, holding up your drawers. It's all too much. I need a glass of wine tonight.
me me me me me! I want your cheap, mid-century-ish, non-crappy gift!! ME!
ReplyDeletewhat beautiful roses, I have just planted 2 rose bushes in our garden as I missed having roses to pick. love your blog, congrats on 100 readers!
ReplyDeleteWow! You made your non-crappy gift sound so attractive. And a mystery too. Count me in.
ReplyDeleteAlso well done on your statistical success and the lovely things you received! xx
Did you see? I cut up a sheet! It was my very great pleasure to give you this little gift...
ReplyDeleteDepends, really, on how big the drawer is. I'm told that morgues...never mind, that's just my cruddy mood seeping through. Mazel tov on your 100th reader. (Now what in the heck is a feedburner? (Will it tell me I have more followers than the Google jobbie does? If so, I'm getting one.) Your roses are lovely, and so is your vomiting hound. I also only looked at the pictures in The Little Prince. What does this mean?
ReplyDeleteI love your style of writing!! We were just in Belgium and a Russian family asked the bookstore owner for The Little Prince in Flemish. Now your post. Is this a sign I should buy one too? I may have one in my bookshelf - I need to go look.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the dog puke - that's always a drag :)
I have good news for you - you actually have 187 followers! Some via email and others through a reader :) You're almost to 200!!
ReplyDeleteYou crazy stalwarts are all in the top drawer!
ReplyDeleteWendy, the Feedburner thing does record more readers because it gives them more options to read. Brismod suggested it to me ... I have no idea how it works.
Happy HUK, you are the optimist ... I think the Feedburner counts the Google people!
Funny, I remember when you used to say ... dear three readers (te he)! Seriously, congratulations! I'd love to win your non-crappy mid-centuryish gift. Michelle
ReplyDeleteYou go girl, study & flowers, plus a gift & recipe, all round fabulous post. Love Posie
ReplyDeletegeez, that Catherine is a bit lovely isn't she :)
ReplyDeleteI might have to read this book too.
Gorgeous roses! I was admiring roses today, wishing there existed such a thing as a smell-a-blog-a-post thing so that I could post about how powdery, Nana top drawer smelling they were. (Top drawer - oblique plug, non?) And I had a The Little Prince calendar hanging in the kitchen last year to remind me to read it. Still haven't read it. So Wodehouse and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry...
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday Noodle. Congratulations on the busy blog you are keeping us entertained with. I can only think of the recent camping trip where 2yo requested Lady Mary song over and over. Do you know it? Lady Mary had a canary up the leg of her draws, when she farted it departed down the leg of her draws. Boom boom! The boom boom is part of the song.
ReplyDeleteGosh I can write some rubbish.
OK, I feel entitled to be in the non-crappy prize drawer because I too remember when it was three-readers. So go on. I'm feeling lucky. I'm also feeling that I should go bake some apples...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Noodle! Glad you're holding up my drawers, MMMC. Lucky you, getting lovely gifts like books and flowers.
ReplyDeleteHUGS!
Love Noodle; see how those eyes says: "Mommy, never mind the vomit, just let me stay here in your Mid-Century-madness". My son had "The Little Prince" on tape when he was little, and could not sleep without lisetning to it. I must have heard it hundreds of times; it's magical. (The listening part came after we had gone through 3-4 books :)
ReplyDeletePossum already got a present, so I guess we're out.. although 4th of November is my husbands birthday... so, maybe we're in. At least she fits in a drawer, I suppose.
...a short and whimsical song by folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel, appearing on their 1966 album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme. **** is the colloquial name of the Queensboro Bridge in New York City. The song's message is immediately delivered in its opening verse: Can you name that opening verse?
ReplyDeleteThat's my message to you MMMC. Have a groovy day!
You really need to write a little freelance article on the camaraderie of blogging. I would love your gift but feel the UK is too far away. Leave me out of the draw but be sure to catch the hearty congratulations I'm sending your way. Goodluck with the exams and the job hunt - I bet you thought that day would never come?
ReplyDeleteM-L
ps Happy Birthday Noodle - Fluffy, who's not yet one, can't believe it. Apparently, you don't look a day over 4.
Put me in there. I´m not going anywhere anyway. Maybe I even have to search for the mid-cen. gift in my own Neck of the woods? I mean, this is where most of it´s at ;)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your wine!!
Lena.
Ok,...just as long as its not a pear teatowel!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Noodle!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Noodle. 14 is very impressive for a doggie even if there is vomit involved. Loving the roses too. What a clever M-I-L you have to grow those. And very wise comment you made to receive the Little Prince book. Well deserved in my opinion! Please count me in for non-crappy mid-century type cheap gift. Sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteI thought Noodle may have been canonised by now!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY 14th. NOODLE.
I'm amazed you have survived your erratic mother this long.
Toowoomba grows champion roses.
I can remember someone close to me digging them all out and giving them the toss.
Raine and Sage's 2yr old's chant could become a theme in this bog possibly.
Happy times in the library.
Well I already follow 'cause I found you through Meet Me at Mikes and you made me giggle. I like people who make me giggle, even when I accidently snort latte out of my nose.
ReplyDeleteI'd respond to each of you, but I really don't have the energy!
ReplyDeleteSo, I'll just say ... you're all in the draw. I don't mind where you live! I'm happy to send things around the globe!
Noodle is the same age as my Sophie! She doesn't vomit but she is deaf and blind and somewhat senile! Happy Birthday! Did you get him a treat?
ReplyDeletePut me in the drawer please. Although I definately won't fit!
I am anticipating another episode with Horsey and Oprah... Apparently her 'people' are at Ullura at the moment.....
I just came across your blog today. We have a LOT in common! Hopefully you will stop by my blog sometime. will be looking forward to more of your blogs to come

The mind boggles! Could it be a ceramic bull, a replica Bitossi ashtray, a pre loved 70's communion veil, a snip of genuine Noodle fluff? Ahhh, the memories. It's been a lovely ride so far MMMC.
ReplyDeleteWhen you graduate will you still be blogging upstairs and downstairs and in the corporate lawyers' chambers? Here's to the next 100 'followers' (although it does make you sound like a cult!)
MMMC, give me presents. And don't make us drink the Kool-Aid.
