Before ...
After.
Ms Curly Pops sent me this link ... to a blog which shows the before-and-after photos of a Mid-Century house for sale in Buffalo, America.
The After shots are very Mad Men ... the Before shots make me feel like I'm not doing so bad on the domestic-front.
Thank you, Ms Curly Pops!
But, when you look at the photos, I'm sure it'll make you sad to think that someone, no doubt an elderly person, became so swamped in their 'stuff'.

Oh, Mad Men, love the show & keep yelping out to my husband "OMG, it's just like your father's" tee hee. Love Posie
ReplyDeleteI saw this on the weekend and felt relieved and then sad. It is like two different homes.
ReplyDeleteHello Posie!
ReplyDeleteBM,
yes, I felt sad too. Old age makes me sad. From a personal perspective, 'Elder Law' is an area which is growing because of the ageing population. I think our oldest people often need as much help as our most infantile.
Aside from that, the house looks wonderful once cleaned.
I forgot to mention - did you follow the real estate link and check out the price?
ReplyDeleteyou're right - it's partly reassuring (I'm bad, but not that bad), but partly sad... really wish the previous owner had been helped when they were still around to enjoy it...
ReplyDeletelove that floor!
CP,
ReplyDeleteabout $300K US? I'd say that was cheap.
Catherine,
the kitchen floor is superb! Though will probably be ripped-up by a renovator.
If you really want to feel sad, check out this blog:

Some homes need to be left as-is!
phew, i feel much better about the current state of my house now too! i only got about half the cleaning and tidying i had planned to do done before i left for perth for a week. oops!
ReplyDeleteDo you get the show Hoarders over there? The houses are so bad sometimes I just gag and Look Away. Then I have to go and clean and throw out stuff just to make sure I'm not a hoarder!
ReplyDeleteMegan,
ReplyDeletethe tidying never ends deso it?
Deb,
we may get Hoarders on Foxtel. But we don't have Foxtel. It's like people talking about 'nits' before they've finished, you feel all itchy. These Hoarder-type photos make me question my collecting tendancies.
I threw out a whole lot of old high-schoolish letters from people whom I don't have contact with anymore and felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders!
Well I was going to do some sewing this morning but I think I had better clear out my desk before it spreads like the disarray in the Before picture. I am sure that shamble just started with some unopened junk mail then somehow rolled into ....
ReplyDeleteif you enjoy this then you must visit this http://www.uglyhousephotos.com/ it makes me laugh my head off! (and feel better about my ugly kitchen)
ReplyDeleteMilady,
ReplyDeleteI went to that site. Those houses were/are hideous! With all due respect to the owners, of course.
Did you hear the story about the old lady hoarder who was missing for months, her husband thought he had wandered off and been abducted or something. The police were called and brought dogs but couldn't find anything. It was only after the husband went into a room and saw her shoes sticking out that he realised she has been in thee under her belongs the whole time and due to the smell the dogs could find anything.
ReplyDeleteMy husband used this as a warning to me. It wasn't even their fist house it was a second they had built has the first had so much stuff.
