I usually do one idea a post ... but I thought I'd try something different.
Were you aware the latest edition of LMNOP is out? You can download a copy.
It has some lovely toys in it ... damn those lovely toys! They are my undoing.
Only negative about this magazine is, that I always find it hard to source the gorgeous things they feature ... that's probably a good thing, in retrospect ... like the apple bag on p13 and those blocks on p6. And the Think-Ets on p23 are cool.
It's Peanuts' 60th Anniversary ... Here is a book I got in 1981 ...
And this is Charles Schulz's biography which I got more recently.
I couldn't put it down ... he was a very complicated character with very little self-belief, despite his syndicated cartoon being an international success ... and Charlie Brown's daily dilemmas very often reflected Mr Schulz's inner-turmoils. Yes. Believe it.
Snoopy and the gang have always made me laugh.
Linus is my favourite - because of his philosophical personality.
"Wooden dolly sidekick, get this Schultz character on the blower! I think he needs to be on next week's show! Hmmm, dead is he?"
Today we tried to clean the backyard ...
Nice rear shot ... I laid some mulch, so that the Buzzards have something else to destroy ...
As per usual, everyone helped. Look at Child 3 on the right still in his pyjamas post-lunch ...
Noodle got frolicky for about three seconds ...
Nasty weed ... brave Husband picked the prickly thing out of the ground ... where would we be without him?
We fine tuned our gross-motor skills with a spot of
French cricket ... Notice how my children don't brush their hair?
Child 4 went down the slippery-dip, over-and-over again ... little pixie!
Look at her holding her brother's hand. She has no hair to brush.
And, sure enough, the Buzzards started spreading the mulch when no one was looking. Buzzards!
These Saltwater sandals, I think, maybe the thing this summer ... they're not my feet, by the way.
They've been around for about 50 years (not that particular pair), are a bit retro and are designed to be worn in and out of the water.
You can get them in kid's sizes from Kido Store and I think a store called Pulp in Sydney sells adult sizes.
I'm only interested if they come to Brisbane. If anyone gets a tip-off ... let me know.
What a post! Not sure whether I'll do it like this again.

Yep - I've ordered my red Saltwaters from Pulp (in Sydney). They remind me of the Jesus sandals we wore in primary school. Child 4 looks like she's having a most excellent time - so cute.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Horsey is back in play again. Your childs are sweet no matter if their hair is an ugly tangle and some are still wearing their pjs. Husbands are great help in the garden are they not?! Maybe child 4 will not grow hair! Problem solved for her.
ReplyDeleteI believe the bald baby is de rigueur as I have one.
ReplyDeleteI believe the salt water sandal to be pretty and useful but superfluous for a Brisbania summer where my kids only wear shoes to arrive at a place and then shed and leave them. I do believe some of the more groovy Mercys wore them with socks. It would be challenging to resurrect that style imagery.
I believe Peanuts to be superlative timeless philosophy to the extent that my first 4 corresponded in personalities perfectly with Lucy, Charlie, Linus and Schroeder. No.5 may turn out to be the little red haired girl if she grows any hair.
I believe your poodle to have life in the old dog yet.
I believe we have discouraged the turkey over the last week as beloved has been down there turfing and wielding long spikey garden tools. We may make a large cardboard cutout of him to leave down there.
I believe brushing of childerbeasts hair encourages head lice and expectations of a tidy mother. An impenetrable thicket of hair knots may not be a bad thing. ( Picture headlice with teeny machetes and fearful expressions).
I believe LMNOP to be Scandi terminology for "prohibitively pricey but jolly nice to look at".
I believe your multi- topic post to be most stimulating on a rainy Sunday morning while the house is empty except for a bald snoring toddler. Multi tasking must be your thing...
Zigsma,
ReplyDeletethat's the way! ... Buy shoes for the mother and not the children!
Deb,
you always write nice comments. I don't know how you do it.
AA,
I believe you've nailed it!
Though I think I could achieve the Mercy sock/sandal thing with Child 2, as he tells me he has to wear socks 24-hours-a-day, as he finds his toes 'ugly'. Seems he can't bare to look at them.
And I want a 'man-wielding-implements' cutout too.
Yes indeedy, those sandels are lovely! I had already noted you were wearing your nice green B's to spread your mulch. I admit I am guilty of the same crime. And what can one add to Charlie....perfection!Hope you are having an enjoyable Sunday, cheers Katherine Oh and yes son that is off to Japan is said skinny boy look alike, particularly when he is in shorts and stands on one side and raises knee haha
ReplyDeleteCricket in pyjamas is definately derigeur. I haven't come across that mag before but am worried that I shall just get toy envy so I may just ignore it. Hope those pesky buzzards haven't messed up your nice neat mulch.
ReplyDeleteCheeky buzzards!!
ReplyDeleteWill be checking out that Schulz biography, my dad is a big peanuts fan and so my sister and i grew up on the comics. might just have to make its way into dad's christmas presents i think - thanks :)
What a post! Not sure whether I'll do it like this again? Please do! I'm rather impressed that you still have your Peanuts circa '81. I'm a book tragic & have everything dating back to my golden books (I insisted on keeping everything - fortunately my Mum obliged). I could make a lot of craft folk very happy if I were to part with them. Anyway you've re-ignited an interest in Charlie, I'm going to check him out.
ReplyDeleteBless your helpful children, mulching from the trampoline even; and Pixie child #4's outfit is gorgeous. :)Sonia
Hello young Raine and Sage,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've kept all your books. I'm a bit of a hoarder too.
Thanks for dropping in ... I hope you enjoy being re-acquainted with Charlie Brown!
i hope you are wearing your saltwater sandals and listening to Vince Guiraldi while reading your Peanuts!
