Withering expression

This is Child 1 watching a video of Kate Bush singing Wuthering Heights.

I was reading Mogantosh's blog. She had the video on a post.

It was a No 1 hit for Kate Bush in 1978. So I was seven when I would have seen the film clip on Countdown.

When I saw it, I don't think I said:

Who's that?
She's gotta weird voice!
She's not even singing!
And she's just dressed in orange!
Why is she moving like that?

I do say now:
Your point being, honky-tonk, fancy-pants, gettin'-hip-to-the-groove Child One?

  1. Oh dear....as a huge Kate bush fan ( hence blog name) my poor children have often been seen pulling a face like your child 1 ;) Still isn't it only right that children think their parents taste in music is "weird"

  2. I think I may have to concur with Child 1. Who does she like to listen to?

  3. That expression is priceless ... and a travesty! How could you not think Wuthering Heights is the pinnacle of vocal achievement?

  4. Whenever I sing along to Kate Bush my four month old starts crying - the quivering chin, bottom lip, I'm really upset cry. I still check whether her musical taste has improved every so often. She particularly hates The Man With the Child in His Eyes. Bush's latest album is genius though.

  5. Actually, I'm not even a Kate Bush fan ... I think the nostalgia got me, and I was shocked she did not share my enthusiasm.

    Deb,
we're all a little 'sheltered' in this house, Child 1 likes the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, ABBA ... she doesn't like listening to the radio. We don't even own an i-pod! Though she's getting one for her birthday so we'll trawl the Internet for suitable tweenie music.

  6. Well, thank goodness she loves the classics. My girls grew up on the same fare.

  7. Ha ha. I'm with child one. I've always thought Kate Bush managed to get away with an awful lot. Bit like Bjork and those heavy metal bands who make lots of money by screaming into microphones. Bah Humbug!

  8. Her face - priceless! Although I quite like the song myself :)

  9. CK,
I love the Eurovision Song Contest! Don't tell me you don't!

    Hello Bron,
you have a lovely blog. Child 1 can master many disdainful facial expressions.
