Evening Three Readers,
As you know, Child 1 had her First Communion combined Confirmation the other day.
We needed a singlet to go under her dress. Just a plain, white singlet. So off we drove to the mecca of the western suburbs.
We proceeded, in what turned out to be an angry march, from department store to department store only to find - "bralette" after "bralette"!
You can imagine my rage ... and then there were 'Hipster Hidden Support singlets' from Size 8!
That model has bigger breasts than me.
I couldn't find one plain, white singlet for a girl older than Two. What's that all about? I'm still in disbelief and disappointment.
I eventually found a size 4-6 white Spencer at Target. It was the best I could do! Thank goodness Child 1's dress had long sleeves.
I don't mind what other mothers do, but I can tell you, in this house Barbie isn't Queen ... there's no nail polish, lip gloss or shorty-shorts, and 'bralettes' don't appear on the credit card statement.
What would you prefer a little girl play with?
Something like this?
or this?
Hopefully, it'll turn out to be the right decision.

I am so with you on this one. For years we avoided the pink aisle by only having boys then when girl child came along we discovered the unsavoury charms of the 'ho doll' ( the doll formerly known as Bratz). We always commiserate when we see her at the shops and say things like "Poor darling! Look at her scary lips. She must have cold sores." When she has occasionally been given these toys they disappear quickly into the abyss of the Big High Cupboard as she has no interest in them anyway.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are much nicer toys and dolls about, but these hideous things are the ones continually advertised! Bratz dolls do have crazy lips and freakish eyes.
